Maybe this isn't really fair, but he seems like a real a-hole.

I thinks it's more the pressure that's been on him. I've gone over it a few times. He does state that he's "generally a sensitive, shy kid". We all react differently when the heat is on.

O HAI JACOB!!!

I like Jacob Lensky, and this interview is part of the reason why. He's straight-up, which not enough professional athletes are. I will, however, still subscribe to my keyhole theories. Sorry.

random thoughts:

- fit boy in that video

- great take on the goal - natural sense and that and the fact he finds defense mentally draining tells me he will have to play mid for canada

- this guy just screams attitude and commitment problem - he has a rich kid's version of ali gerba's CV complete with all the club-hopping and the same inevitable conclusion that either the player has something wrong with his attitude or about ten professional managers happened to have poor judgement. your call

- hard to imagine him not having major headbutts with the csa again - not to mention feeling "too good" to sit on the bench with guys like hastings or bernier

- hard to imagine him still playing the game in five years let alone ten or fifteen like some of our legends - there is something just not there and if in perfect health and peak of his young adulthood he can barely be bothered then what will become of him after a serious knee injury, falling out of favour at a club, fighting relegation or the pains of age

- again, like his comeback, I hope I am wrong but I have a definite feeling that this guy is not the next Stalteri - maybe the next Begovic or (more likely) Brad Parker

Great interview! He seems like an interesting dude! Very straightforward and blunt responses! Hopefully he will get his career on track and be a decent player for our MNT, who knows, I guess we'll start to find out in two weeks time! Good Luck to him!

LOL.

To be fair, the text version of the interview may read less flattering than the actual verbal interview. Arse or laid back roll-with-the-punches sort of guy? Same words, different impression. Depends on the media.

Either way, clearly he's a lad who finds it difficult dealing with the pressures and ultra competitive atmosphere of pro football (both on the pitch & in the locker room). But in the overall picture isn't that what separates gifted athletes from professional players just as much as the individual physical skills, ability & cunning?

Good interview. And fair enough on Mr Lensky's part for being straight forward. Clearly this young man is worth keeping an eye on. I'll let Hart (who is odviously more informed) decide if it's time to call Lensky for international duty or leave him to do some more growing.

In the long run it may do more good than harm in saying "We're keen on you, but not yet". He's enjoying things right now but realistically the foundation for his career isn't built yet.

I gotta say, from that interview I kinda liked him. I thought he sounded pretty decent, especially his candid answers about the competitive nature of the sport and his time at Celtic and his burnout. I'm not nuts about his answer re: the Czech Republic, but otherwise I appreciated that he was honest and to-the-point.

I appreciate his being forthcoming. Fair enough then. Maybe he's a prick but he's our prick. Maybe he's just 20 and doesn't quite yet know....much. Regardless, he's honest and after all the experience we've had with less than truthful MNT members (or prospective members...) we can't hold it against him.

Lucky break on the goal somewhat, but did well to get in that position as a LB! (now if I could get my own full backs in the box like that!)

He comes across as an enigma. In one respect he keeps talking about how people have picked on him, as if he's some kind of victim everywhere he goes? Yet he also has this i don't give a frigg, i'm not going to shine shoes, take it or leave it attitude. Weird.

Powerof11, do you have any idea what happened to him at Feyenoord in regards to his teammates abusing his niceness?

Definitely think he should be looked at as a left mid, he's young and skilled and we have enough left backs as it is. Let him push Josh Simpson (and DeRo?) for that spot.

Oh, and i like the fact that he took a year off to party and go to concerts. When you're suffering from burnout and homesick and you retire at the age of 19 it's probably a good idea to re-connect with friends and get your head straight.

First of all, congrats to rednationonline for the interview. Good to see you guys filling in the gap that exists for national team coverage out there.

Re: Lensky, well, I'll be interested to see what Hart makes of him and how he gets along with the team. His answers are atypical for a Canadian soccer player. Perhaps the "I'll do whatever"-type responses are just a way of getting past whatever personal issues that he had which caused him to retire last year, but it does make me worry a bit as playing for a national team (especially Canada when his club team is in Europe) requires quite the dedication & committment - or it should if we want the team to be a success, and those weren't the most committed-sounding answers I've ever read. But anyway, we'll see. I hope he gets along with his Canadian teammates better than he did with his old Dutch club. Good for Hart for making the contact with him.

Interesting as well to hear that apparently going to see Motley Crue in concert persuaded him to return to playing soccer - did they sing "Shout at the Lensky" on stage or something? :)

Based on previous experience, words mean nothing anyways.

At least he's honest.

Unlike Begovic - Lensky was honest and to the point. I'd rather have that than be lied to.

I understand your point and I also agree with it, but it doesn't make me happier. He says he loves Canada but I believe words must be proved with actions and saying he would have accepted a call from Czech Republic, that piss me off. It's hard to imagine how many people can have this kind of attitude, it disappoint me, really.

...And from Confirmed callups thread...

From CBC soccer reporter John Molinaro's Twitter feed:

"Just found out that Jacob Lensky will play for Czech Republic, NOT Canada! story to follow....."

So yeah.

How can we expect to qualify to a WC with players who love Canada like this? how?

This is one of those times when I wish I couldn't have been more wrong. Although given who we are talking about perhaps he'll change his mind on the flight to the Czech Republic and force the pilot to turn the plane around.

The timing of this is almost suspicious. Did someone from the Czech Republic read the interview and say "Hey, let's give him a call"?
