Guest Jeffery S.
quote:Originally posted by FCH What else should the keeper have done? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jBYeNj2OyM Saw this but not in real time, just amazing. I think the first goal is not his fault, he had to come out as the defender was beat and he could not wait in the box for it. The second his centre back was closer to the striker and to the long ball, and maybe he could have stayed back. But again, after seeing his backs get beaten on the long ball before he was justified to want to come out and cut off the attack. So the second could be questionable, you could say he should have given his back a chance. Both times he was unlucky the clearance went to a Hamburg player with time to line up the long shot. Very unlucky for the keeper (you can't reasonably ask a keeper to also be able to direct his clearance with a header, not under those conditions). A marvellous sequence, one of the great two minute moments in football I have seen, simply for the total unlikeliness of that happening twice so quickly. Cheeta
quote:Originally posted by FCH What else should the keeper have done? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jBYeNj2OyM LOL! Oi... That's rough. Meh, unlucky on the 1st goal. The 2nd as well but I guess if he could have done something different it would have been to stop pretending he's a sweeper and let the bounce of the ball give his defender back the yard he lost on that long ball and guard his goal with a mind for the coming one v one. Even still, hard to find fault with a 'keepers choice making when he clears a ball 20 yard up field to deny a striker a clear and near clear break away on goal. LOL. I'm going to watch that again. redhat
Wonder what that would do to the young keeper's confidence? The first goal, he's just unlucky & the header went to a Hamburg player. The defence should have adjusted for any subsequent goal and kept the goalkeeper near his goal. Hard to find fault, but he's off his line. Really unfortunate to happen within 90 seconds. Burned once, silly mistake; burned twice ...
Eric
And what about this one, it happened this week too but I think in this case it was entirely the GKs fault not that the case with the German keeper. The only think I can question about the German keeper is that he could have try to pass the ball with the header instead of just clearing it wherever. loyola
Eric, your video is just a plain poor clearance. A pro keeper must be able to put that ball high in the air. As for the German keeper, if he doesn't come out in both case he has to deal with a breakaway so he is justified to come out like that IMO. The first one is a terrific play if the ball ends up on one of his teamates. He is just terribly unlucky that the ball went twice to an opponent who was able to have a clear shot at the goal. If I'm his coach, I tell him I like the fact that 90 seconds after that first play that went wrong he wasn't afraid to do it again and he was just unlucky both time. His teamates should be blame for letting balls coming through like that and also for not doing a better job trying to prevent the play after the clearances. Trillium
quote:Originally posted by FCH What else should the keeper have done? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jBYeNj2OyM Better question is what is the job of a back ..... when the keeper comes out on a challenge as he did..its to not stop at the eighteen yard box, but to cover the line, in both cases the defenders did not back up the goalie by going to the line.
