Canuck Oranje
I am posting this because I think it might help those interested to understand financial possibilities of playing at the top level in Brazil. The numbers are in Euros. It also helps give a sense why few top level (and still capable) Brazilians have come to play in the MLS. It should also be noted that the source only lists Brazilians. There is a possibility that some foreign players (like Maxi Lopez, etc) may fall in this range as well. Some might wonder how teams in Brazil pay these salaries. The answer to that is direct sponsorship. For example, my understanding is that Ronaldo's salary is paid directly by Nike. Generally, the bigger clubs can pay more. However, with the exception of maybe Sao Paulo and Internacional, the ability to pay salaries is primarily the club's value as a marketing tool. jpg75
That's very insightful, thanks CO! It's one thing to have big salaries for players who have come back from Europe (the top 3 on that list), but to see so atleast 20 players making $1M CDN is an eye opener - even if they almost exclusively play for the big clubs. I was really curious how much Diego Souza was making, now i know...i'm guessing Wagner Love signed after this data was compiled?
Canuck Oranje
There are some missing. Wagner Love probably would be on that list. I believe Dentinho just resigned with Corinthians too. However, the one I am most interested in is Fernandinho, who resigned (for three years) with Barueri about 2/3 weeks ago. That was after protracted discussions with Hertha Berlin, Sporting Lisbon, Panathinaikos, and Corinthians. While I doubt he would be on this list, the fact that he did sign with Barueri indicates that there is money flowing from somewhere to do the deal.
