mike_desare
Hope this "unidentified source" pans out. If so, this would be great news and there is no reason for MLS or Garber to reconsider the Whitecap's bid: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/british-columbia/bc-place-to-get-retractable-roof/article1314612/

Richard
^ How can that be!!!!
Calgary Boomer
I'm suprised Francisco Aquilini and not Greg Kerfoot are keen on the private part of the partnership. I don't like the fact that the Whitecaps may have to pay rent to that scumbag.
Richard
Why should Kerfoot invest in BC Place when what he really wants and will eventually get, is his own stadium?
Calgary Boomer
^ Because he's a smart business man. He would get a piece of any action at the dome, (which he would still need for bigger high profile games that will certainly come after 2011). He might also gain some pretty valuable real-estate downtown...something that he ultimately wants for the waterfront in addition to the stadium. Richard
Don't think I can agree with your logic and besides, why would he want to partner with Aquilini if he doesn't need to!
masster
^I don't think Aquilini or Brailey or Kerfoot or whoever will be 'getting a piece of any action'. What they probably will be getting is developmental rights on land around BC Place. BC Place will still remain a publicly owned facility.
mike_desare
quote:Originally posted by jpg75 So, are you saying that Spiral was wrong? [:0] If you're talking about the posts over one month ago, from what I read, "Spiral" was at least basing his facts on what the Liberals were saying about the budget and the lowered priority of the retractable roof in the media. I also like to base my arguments on citeable sources, as opposed to the "biased" posters on this forum who often don't post their sources. As for this article, the Globe & Mail would not identify their source. You can take your pick on how credible this article is.
mike_desare
quote:Originally posted by jpg75 So, are you saying that Spiral was wrong? [:0] Well, it looks like CBC has just posted a rebuttal to that Globe & Mail article: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/10/07/bc-retractable-roof-bc-place-stadium.html As per the CBC article, maybe we'll have definitive answer in 4 weeks time. Vancouversoccerman
David Braley was just on CKNW this morning. He denies having ANY discussions with the provincial government regarding financing the roof at BC Place, and he says he has not teamed up with Aquilini on any proposal or project. He also wonders who made up this story for the Globe & Mail. EDIT: Just to clarify, he said on air: "This story is COMPLETELY made up".
