Both Hirschfeld and Straith stay on the bench for Cottbus in a 1-1 tie away to Alemania Aachen. Bad news in the former case but good news for Straith. I think this is the first game that he has been on the bench for the Cottbus 1st team this year and for an away game as well. Maybe a sign that he will make his 1st team debut in the near future.

Stalteri subbed for Neuville at min 85. He had a great game. Its so good to see he can still play at this level. Nothing got by him on the right side, and he managed to send in a nice cross once.

AND he also tracked back to save a clear goal after his keeper got schooled.

Thanks to Grizzly for initiating this thread as I was away in central AB without net access.

Some lower league news from this weekend:

Friday

No sign of Gianluca Zavarise as VfL Bochum reserves lose 1-0 to Fortuna Dusseldorf reservers in the Regional League Nord.

Saturday

No sign of Alex Elliott as FSV Mainz 05 reserves lose 2-1 to SC Verl, in the Regional League West.

Sunday

Riley O'Neill with another game winner and a Yellow in SV Wilhelmshaven's 1-0 win over FC Plauen in the Regional League Nord.

Massih Wassey scores again, this time on a PK, and picks up a Yellow, as Schalke 04 reserves defeat Bayer Leverkusen reserves 2-1 in the Regional League West.

Maycoll Canizales off in the 67th minute and earns a Yellow in a 4-1 win over Waldhof Mannheim, also in the Regional League West.

Big game for Kyle Porter last weekend. I had reported earlier that he scored the insurance goal in their 2-0 win, but in fact, shortly after he came on in the 63rd minute, he drew the foul converted by Thieleman on the PK for the 1st goal in the 67th, and then scored the 2nd himself in the 83rd in a 2-0 win for Energie Cottbus U23's.

This past weekend, he again made a 2nd half sub appearance in Cottbus's 3-1 win, this time Straith again going 90 minutes in D and young Latendresse-Levesque backing up the keeper (good boost from U19 team) on Saturday.

On Sunday, Julien Latendresse-Levesque in net for Energie Cottbus' U19's in a 3-1 win over Hertha Berlin's U19's in the A-Junioren Bundesliga Nord. Jerome Baker a late sub for Cottbus.

Jaineil Hoilett scores the opener in FSV Mainz's U19's 3-2 win over SV Darmstadt in the A-Junioren Bundesliga Sud-Sudwest division.

A very lucky and successful weekend for our boys at Cottbus. With an over abundance of injuries, more injuries and national team commitments

Adam Straith played his first, second half debut with the Cottbus men's team friendly against a bottom dweller in the Polish first

division. The Cottbus team prevailed 3-1. Saturdays U23 German Cup game the next day vs 1892 Advertise saw 5 Canadian starters

and one Canadian sub win the game 1-0 to advance to the German third round of the Brandenburg's Cup. Straith, Levry, Porter, Sidra and

Dosanjh started and played the entire game while Sandhu subbed in at the 80th minute. A little bit of luck and a little bit of braun.

A bit of a correction. This was not Straith's debut with Cottbus in a friendly. He has already played in friendlies for Cottbus but has not started in an official match. He was on the bench for what I think was the first time in their last league game. I suspect he will get on the pitch sometime this year for the first team in an official match. One has the impression that they feel he is close to ready although as mentioned the reason so many Canadians played these games was because Cottbus has an extremely large number of injuries combined with international callups. Half of the players against the Polish team were from the U23 team while half of the players in the U23 game were from the U21 team. Also for the U23 game since it was a Cup game they were not allowed to use any "licenced players" which are the players officially recognized as pro in German (though even players technically considered amateur sometimes make pretty good salaries, it is a bit of a weird system). The fact that Straith played means that his contract is with the U23 team not the BL2 team currently. The teams they played against is in a pretty low division so 1-0 on a penalty was not a very good result although they apparently dominated the game but couldn't score. Another correction the team is named 1892 Werben not 1892 Advertise. With a small w, werben means advertise but in this case it is actually the name of a town. Strange that Lars neither played in the friendly nor was on the bench. Could he be injured or trialing with another club since Tremmel may not transfer?

One more small correction...Levry is American and not Canadian.

Was that intentional?

Well it seems to be a word that South Asians take pride in these days but I am not exactly an expert. But that is why I asked he had intentionally written it that way.

Once again Straith (as well as Hirschfeld) are on the bench for Cottbus as they play against Kaiserslautern. Game just started.

Actually both the Bundesliga and Cottbus live tickers have the U23 goalkeeper Lehmann on the bench, not Lars. Just now 2-1 for K'town 10 minutes into the 2nd half. I wonder if Lars is being shopped around?

He should at least ask for a loan move. They can easily live without him on the bench and call him back in case something goes wrong with Tremmel. Lars needs first team action, he hasn't played a league game in 18 months.

A little late but here is the weekend preview/update:

Friday

Bundesliga 2

Rot-Weiss Oberhausen (5W-1D-2L) vs FC St Pauli (5W-1D-2L)

A true six pointer and Jonathan Bourgault on the bench as St Pauli grab a big 3 points to move into promotion territory with a come from behind 3-1 away win.

Energie Cottbus (3W-2D-3L) vs FC Kaiserslautern (5W-3D-0L)

No sign of Lars but young Adam Straith on the bench for Cottbus. However, a disappointing 2-1 loss at home leaves them mid-table. K'town remain undefeated on the season.

Saturday

Bundesliga 1

FC Koeln (1W-2D-5L) vs FSV Mainz 05 (4W-2D-2L)

Kevin McKenna on the bench as Koeln hope to stay in good form after their promising 0-0 draw away to Bayern on their last game day.

Bundesliga 2

No Canucks in action.

Sunday

Bundesliga 1

Borussia Dortmund (2W-3D-3L) vs VfL Bochum (2W-2D-4L)

Dani Fernandes still on the bench and Daniel Imhof is out long-term for Bochum.

VfL Wolfsburg (4W-1D-3L) vs Borussia Moenchengladbach (2W-1D-5L)

Rob Friend and Paul Stalteri on the bench for 'Gladbach.

Bundesliga 2

Fortuna Dusseldorf (3W-2D-3L) vs FSV Frankfurt (0W-2D-6L)

Kicker had both Lars and Lehmann on the bench which is admittedly strange. I read an interview with Cottbus' manager at the start of the season and he was pretty pissed at the Tremmel situation since now they are paying Lars a lot of money to sit on the bench. It certainly wouldn't surprise me if Cologne is looking to loan or transfer Lars at the break as that would be the best thing for both he and the team.

The only problem with trying to sell Lars off at this stage in his career is that how many clubs are willing to give

him thumbs up when he hasn't played a league game in 18 months. Who's radar would he be on? I think maybe

he's just waiting to see what happens with the Cottbus team ( Tremmel is not advancing in the second Bungesliga-

as of yet). He might get a chance. January is coming.
