Guest Ed
Not exactly sure of the translation but looks like he has 3 fractured vertebrae suffered after a collision with a Nurnberg player on Friday. Very bad. Best wishes to him. He did get off the field on his feet so no paralysis issue.
Gian-Luca
Best wishes for a recovery - hope that it doesn't end his career.

That's not good; should have been on a stretcher (knowing what we know now). Good luck Daniel, hope you recover soon ...
Guest Ed
I am not sure of the translation, not having gone to medical school in Germany. Perhaps some native speakers will be able to translate "drei Querfortsätze von Lendenwirbelkörpern angebrochen sind" Three something or other are broken. And as the article says that such injuries are only seen in auto accidents or from falling down stairs, I assumed they must be vertebrae, as the injury is definitely with his back. jpg75
I think he has cracked lumbar/interverterbral discs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intervertebral_disc My friend had a cracked disc and it was extremely painful, the disc fluid leaked out and calcified onto his verterbrae. It'll require surgery to remove, but shouldn't threaten his long-term health.

This is more in keeping with the statement that such an injury usually occurs in serious accidents like car accidents or falling down stairs. The lumbar are the strongest vertebrae and support much of the weight of the body so that is why they are only rarely broken and mostly in severe accidents. The good news is that the higher up the spine the more severe the consequences from an injury can be and the lumbar vertebrae are pretty low in the back. Still at 31 it may be a tough injury to recover from in order to play again though it probably will not be that terrible as far as recovering to live a normal life. A Voyageurs get well card to Imhof would be a good idea.

trueviking
3 fractured vertebrae and he walked off the damn field!!!....thats a good canadian boy....send the tape to those pansy ass, italians or central american sucks who roll around the pitch like they had been shot with a cannon ball, get stretchered off and then spring back into the play seconds later. canadians are real men. imhof is my new hero, along side al charron, the canadian rugby star who in his last game, was knocked unconcious during the world cup and when he came to he got up and walked off... get well soon daniel.
