Montreal would be facing the Charleston Battery, and Vancouver would be facing the Boricuas of Puerto Rico. As an Impact fan, I'd fancy my chances against Carolina Railhawks. Have to admit, that Portland are going to be hard to beat this year.
Calgary Boomer
I think the Whitecaps matchup OK against Puerto Rico, but for either team, it would damage a long run. Still 2 big games left for each team, so much to be decided...
SoccerfanatiQ
This year playoffs will be kind of boring without the Sounders . But can't wait for next season's playoff though, What will happen to the league and so forth. Also the last season for Vancouver and Portland 2 big pillars for the USL. Maybe we'll gain some new ones with NY and maybe Ottawa ? Who Know's what will happen for Canadian Soccer ? We are witnessing lot's of progression for soccer addict ! Calgary Boomer
I have a funny feeling Puerto Rico will drop out of second to avoid that trip to Vancouver...they also have the CCL to consider.

Richard.. every team follows the fifa fair play rules you know that .. no one would toss a game...to finish lower. Heck you would think there was no respect for the game in the USL. Calgary Boomer
quote:Originally posted by Richard ^ Gosh darn, do you mean they'll actually throw a game? Ha ha! Exhibit A: a 5-2 loss in Minnesota. I'm not sure if Bill Gaudette is hurt, or was left at home...

No fix here, nothing to see, move along folks. Now for real weirdness how about Austin beating Portland with Austin scoring all 3 goals in a 2 - 1 win (1 own goal to start the scoring). the biologist
quote:Originally posted by Calgary Boomer Ha ha! Exhibit A: a 5-2 loss in Minnesota. I'm not sure if Bill Gaudette is hurt, or was left at home... Actually, they now have lost 2 in a row as they fell 2-1 in Carolina. And there's something worst: Portland lost 2-1 AT HOME against Austin !!! That's almost as worst as the infamous 6-1 lost. Also worth noting is that even though Montreal is 6 pts ahead of Vancouver in the standings, the Caps still boast the best record against the other 9 teams as MTL is 3-0-0 vs. the Caps this year in USL play. And the GD would be 0 for MTL and +7 for the Caps ! Fortunately for us these games count ! [8D] But I think overall the Caps deserve a better fate than the Impact this year. You don't hear that from me very often. [:0] Cause Vancouver is full of sh*t ! [}] (Just practising in case of an upcoming playoff game against the Caps... Calgary Boomer
I think the Whitecps would welcome a series against Montreal. Everytime they match-up, the Whitecaps win and move on to take the title.
the biologist
According to the standings, there's only one way they could play each other (the final apart). Conditions</u> - Rochester must lose</u> their final regular season game</u> - Vancouver must win</u> their final regular season game</u> - Montreal as the 5th seed must eliminate</u> the 4th seed</u> - Vancouver as the 6th seed must eliminate</u> the 3rd seed</u> - Rochester as the 7th seed must eliminate</u> the 2nd seed</u> This way it'd be</u> #7 Rochester @ #1 Portland #6 Vancouver @ #5 Montreal Otherwise (Vancouver is the 7th seed OR the 2nd seed wins over Rochester), they could only battle in the Cup Final (@ Saputo of course [8D] ). Cyrus
Has USL-1 finally decided that the highest seeded team gets to host the final, no matter what? I remember the unpleasantness from last year, when Puerto Rico's stadium was deemed unacceptable. Being at the final at CCR in '04 is my greatest soccer memory, and I'd love to get the chance to repeat it. Of course, that assumes that 1: Montreal makes the final, and 2: Portland, Puerto Rico, Carolina and Charleston don't.
Cheeta
http://usl1.uslsoccer.com/home/365329.html Here's an interesting tid-bit. Portland will head into the postseason with the best record against the playoff field, boasting a mark of 10-2-6 this season against the other six clubs. Portland looking to do the double this year. Not too shabby for a team heading onto bigger and better things as it were.

Allison A
Seattle did in 2007. Rochester did in 1998. The Colorado Foxes did in 1992 if you want to consider the old APSL the same league. But it's pretty rare.

Portland has totally stumbled in the last few weeks, and the bye has not always been friendly to teams in the past. Watch for Vancouver to knock them out in round 2. the biologist
After tonight's games, there will remain only two significative games before the playoffs kick off (Saturday: PR @ Miami & Sunday: Charleston @ Minnesota).
