Desigol
Both on course for a Play-Off Spot. Can both Countries qualify for the same Tournament for the first time in History?
earlimus
I sure hope so. I love Ireland, and we could use a few more countries in the World Cup that call the game Soccer.
Grizzly
They both have a chance and have done a bit better than could be expected but I think they will both end up in a playoff spot with Ireland being a decent bet to go through and Northern Ireland will probably get eliminated unless they get really lucky in the draw. RJB
European WCQ is in for an exciting finish. I tend to root for the underdogs, and I think heading into Qualifying, Ireland and Northern Ireland were certainly underdogs. Interestingly, Scotland is still very much alive too. And although it is very unlikely, England are not in the clear and may still be up against it. Year after year, European Qualifying for the World Cup and the European Cup is getting more interesting. masster
^I agree with you regarding the World Cup. But with the European Cup now growing to 24 teams, I think qualifying for that tournament will become rather predictable.
Free kick
Interesting how quickly things can change very quickly before you even have time to notice. last time I checked about week ago, I took note of the fact that it seemed: - SCO looked a good bet to finish second - Cze were totally out of it. - Northern IReland were solidly in second place. - No Ronaldo in South Africa since Portugal looked to be behind the eight ball in need of a miracle. Today: - SCO is eliminated. - CZE are not out of it but a good bet to finish second and get to the playoff with their two remaining games at home. - Northern IReland are now a long shot with only one game left to play which happens to be an away game in Prague against the Czechs - Portugal are now in the drivers seat (for at least a playoff spot) with two home games left against eliminated sides. And Swe and Den, who are ahead of them, have to face each other next.

Portugal needs to win both games to have a realistic chance.
