10 Questions for Marcel de Jong

Rednation Online recently had the opportunity to speak with Marcel de Jong, a young Canadian defender who plays with the Canadian Men's National Team and with Roda JC of the Dutch Eredivisie.

Does not regret his decision to represent Canada.

It disappoints me the reasons he gave for choosing Canada over Netherlands. Anyways, this is no news as he said the same comment in an intervew on Sportsnet months ago. At least he's being honest.

"In the fall 2006 there was speculation De Jong would possibly end up playing for the Netherlands, but almost a year later to the date, made his commitment to Canada, and on November 20, 2007 attained his first senior cap against South Africa. Unfortunately for De Jong, this absence from his domestic club resulted in him being benched for several games."

I remember well that interview on Sportsnet. De Jong said his club did give him a hard time because they weren't happy about the fact he did chose Canada instead Netherlands (that also gave me a negative perspective about the dutch people who works in football).

Hopefully he does play in the Bundesliga. It should definitely help his game.

Can't exactly fault the guy for saying "I chose you guys cause I'd be able to play."

At least he's honest and was willing to take the heat for it.
