I know Eddie's father died some weeks ago and that's probably a reason why his numbers dropped this season. But to which extent it can explain his poor showings ? It's only a LITTLE part of the reason IMO. His age isn't a good explanation too cause he's totally in shape and as recently as 6 months ago, he scored 3 goals in 2 games against a mexican side (of which one was at Santos Laguna). For sure he's not well supported often, but even when it's the case he does nothing. The Impact have played 4-4-2 many times lately and it doesn't change anything. Every time he finds himself 1-on-1 against the keeper he messes his opportunity (like yesterday vs. the Railhawks) and that's not anybody's fault, that's his.

On the other hand, Gbeke looks really rejuvenated by his latest stint with the Caps. In his case I think it's simply a question of confidence, something JL wasn't giving him that TT is presently. The Donatelli-for-Gbeke deal tends to be in favor of the Caps now, although Donatelli has scored some big goals in the CCL last year.

What are your toughts and answers, both Caps & Impact fans ? All in all, is it just a question of momentum ? Would you swap back those 2 players ? I've got a hard time myself finding the answer to this question.

But in all honesty, I think my answer is...

Yes.

I have to say I am really surprised with this turn of events. When Gbeke left the Impact, he was a shell of his former self. They even sent him to play a couple of games for the Attak in Trois Rivieres. I thought he would barely get to play this year in Vancouver. Kudos to the Whitecaps coaching staff for motivating him.

Sadly, Sebrango has been invisible this year. He is simply going through the motions. I don't know if it is his father dying or if he simply doesn't care for the game any longer. Montreal has been a difficult place to play this year with all the infighting, coaching changes and poor results. Sebrango has one more year left on his contract but personally, I think he will pack it in after this season is over or be released. I think the Impact are going to go with a younger team next year, especially if the season ends on a sour note.

I hope that Montreal goes with a younger team next season, but there is no evidence, they are heading in the opposite direction with Biello (37) and Leighton O'Brien (33) getting starts. Y'know I think that Saputo is just saving his $$$. The fans come out...he doesnt need to win games. And there is no incentive for Montreal to develop young talent.

Sebrango and Gbeke are both good players. Kudos to the Vancouver coaching staff for being good at what they do and creating goals for the Whitecaps. In Montreal, Gjertsen, Biello and O'Brien(s) just dont give good service to the central forwards. Rocco gets a few crosses in, as does Braz, but I believe that dos Santos is working at getting better off of the ball movement up front. And I have expectations for Montreal to be competitive in the playoffs.

You can be in terrific shape, and still lose a step. Thats what I think has happened to Eddy. Sandro Grande also mentioned that it was very difficult to gain any momentum with this club, because they have so many players on the roster, and I don't think we've had the same lineup for more then 2 games if at that.

I think the quality of the league has also improved, with bigger and better athletes then ever before.

As for Eddy, I hope nothing but the best for a man that has done alot for Canadian club football.

I think that ONCE we get confirmation that we are in MLS, I would start cleaning house, ala Vancouver Whitecaps, and go with a young squad of upcoming talent, blended in with some of the players that will be able to play in MLS.

Currently the Caps are ahead on that swap but a clearer understanding of the numbers Eddie got last year came from the fact he was on a roll. The Caps were at or close to the top of the league last year despite being second or third from the bottom in goals for. Their defence and goalie carried the day with Eddie providing timely goals. Eddie scored on a very high percentage of his shots last year but this year is more normal. I also think he got much better service from and was more familiar with his Vancouver teammates than the Impact. It may be that next year is his big year with the Impact once he gets a stable group around him. If the Impact can keep a stable lineup in midfield and provide service. Without Sandro Grande you really appear to flounder in the middle 3rd in the games I've seen since he left.

With Marlon, Marcus and Charles as the core up front and REB/Dever coming up I don't know if Eddie would fit back in currently. His nose for goal looks a lot more normal this year than the lethal one he had last year.

Charles has one big advantage in a physical league in that he can out position and muscle most defenders. He also has soft feet for a big guy, I still remember the play where he pulled in a 65 yard goalie kick in stride on his foot like the ball was velcro'd to it! His ability to hold the ball up is crucial whereas Eddie is primarily a finisher and a wiry problem for defences in the box.

I personally think Donatelli is a better player than Gbeke. Gbeke is poor in every facet of the game except scoring and even then he is not that great of a finisher because he wastes a lot of chances. Yet if he gets enough chances he will score and that is what he has done for the Caps. The problem for us in the trade is not that Gbeke is the better player but that we have quite a few decent midfielders like Donatelli but don't have anyone who is scoring regularly. We thought Sebrango would be but since the games against Santos he has been disappointing. Not sure why because he seems to giving an honest effort out there and trying his best but maybe he is just a streaky scorer. Byers seems to have won the starting striker position and has looked good the last few games. Despite frustrating us with missed chances last year the last two goals he has scored have been excellent finishes. Brown seems consistent at scoring a middle amount of goals but we need to get someone going and scoring consistently so hopefully one of Byers or Sebrango will get on a roll. Otherwise we won't be in the playoffs very long. Especially since this year there have been a lot of games where we have not dominated yet we often don't win the ones we do dominate either due to lack of finishing.

Make that 13 for the big guy. Nice diving header against Cleveland last night. He takes the golden shoe (forehead?) for the league.

I must say with Marlon's feet, Charles head, and Marcus doing a bit of both the attack looks good for the playoff run.

Now if REB could just score his first USL-1 goal and get that monkey off his back I'm sure he'll break out bigtime. Watching him run with the ball faster than other players can run without it is always a treat. I like the way TT has brought him in later in the games to run at tired defenders. Just plain nasty [8D]

Don't know who's right but on the USL website, they say he has 12.

Final stats</u>

Numbers between () shows USLD1 ranking except for mins where it's % of total time played

Gbeke</u>: 28 Games (26), 25 Pts (2), 2048 Mins (76%), 12 G (1), 1 A (70), 73 Shots (1), 50 Fouls (2).

Sebrango</u>: 27 Games (38), 10 Pts (30), 1696 Mins (63%), 4 G (19), 2 A (41), 36 Shots (15), 16 Fouls (?).

Gbeke is shooting 2X more than Sebrango (1st in the league), so that shows his teammates succeed in feeding him constantly in the box. As for Sebrango, when it happens, he tries instead to feed Brown, Byers, etc. most of the time. Well, actually he assists 2X more than Gbeke :D .

13 includes the Voyageur's Cup games.

But the big guy is second in the league in fouls!! That will keep the defenders a comfy distance away ;)
