In the very last minute with Twente leading Feyenoord 1-0,the free kick was taken by Jonathan, the place filled to the rafters and if Twente wins they will be in first place the 50000 fans were going nuts. The kick could have been taken by Van Bronkhorst,Mackaay or our boy from Scarborough.Well Jonathan took it and hit the arm from a Twenty defender.Minute 95,Mackaay to take the penalty and does what he always does ,he scored and tied the score.the fans went nuts. What a game and was it Jonathan's last game,we don't know yet.

leafdolfan....who knows...the new FIFA rules MIGHT change matters. Jono was conspicuous by his absence from the latest Dutch NT squad for their last WCQ qualifier. they could easily have called him into that meaningless game and tied him up for good but they didn't.

Judas is right.

I wonder how family reunions are for him with his brother playing for Canada and him being a defector to a country he only has buisness ties to in Holland.

I understand not wanting to play in the MLS and make the big money over in Europe, but when it comes to playing internatioanlly I just can't see how you can turn your back on your own country.

He's a traitor? And the CSA lollygaggers and cronies who perpetuate waste and decay are what? Patriots?

He left at 12 and received virtually all his development and spent ALL his adult life in another country, and owes the CSA and this country a great big plate of SFA.

He actually developed into a dominant youth player here in Canada. As a 10 year old he was part of an U12 team coached by Rafa Carbajal that went down to Uruguay where he turned alot of heads with his play. He was a member of the U15 Ontario Provincial team the year he left for Rotterdam. He started playing in the Feyenoord youth system with players a year older than him. He was a already a gem.

As for spending his entire adulthood in Holland? Not true either. He's been coming back to Toronto every summer during the offseason. He also came back "home" for 3 months last winter after his surgery. If he spends any significant amount of time back in Holland after his imminent move abroad i'd be very surprised.

I don't think he's a traitor but I find his constant rejection of our U-17 and U-20 MNT calls when he was eligible to play for us (not yet for the Netherlands) to be in poor taste.

Jono will always be coming back to Rotterdam just like he will always be coming back to Toronto. He's got 2 kids as well over here..
