The issue is not whether there will be a new roof. There has to be a new roof cause the old one is becoming dangerous. The issue is will the government go back on its promise to the MLS. That way Gordo collects quick cash for the Pavco lands to balance the budget, and they get a pile of labourers off the dole and working at two sites.... demolition work at False Creek, and construction in Gastown. Frankly, with Montreal in the picture having everything in place except for the $25 million upgrades, there is sufficient reason for Garber and the Board of Governors to give our spot to Montreal. Just heard Vaughn Palmer and Keith Baldry with Bill Good on CKNW and they feel the Retractable will be delayed indefinitely. So I'm not sure why Lenarduzzi feels the Retractable is a done deal. Plans for a state of the art, retractable roof now seem to be in jeopardy, potentially a victim of the severe economic downturn. Tourism Minister Kevin Krueger revealed today the bids on the 360 million dollar project came in over-budget. He says due diligence is being done. The NDP says the roof upgrade is dead.
