ted
After a reasonably successful debut season in the PDL of watching the lads in black and gold, our little band of singing, chanting, even occasionally pitch-invading, supporters has decided to try out our own identity. If you are in or near Victoria and want to show real support come join the Black Watch, the premier "regiment" in the "Highland Army". Pub night @ the Bard & Banker coming soon. Now THAT is a good idea... While a Canadian version of scotch should be considered (the Canadian Black Watch regiment was based in Montreal - not sure if they exist anymore) the actual British Army Black Watch Battalion headquarters (and museum) is located in Perth, Scotland... which is of course in the Central Highlands. There are a couple of distilleries founded near Perth. The best known are probably The Famous Grouse and Dewar's. But why stop there! A brewery in Wisconsin do a "Black Watch Scotch Ale" http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/952/25933 Surely, you should be able to have authentic Scottish food at matches. How about the Black Watch Scotch Egg? http://scotcheggcompany.blogspot.com/2009/06/addictive-or-what.html Some more interesting Black Watch facts: One of their nicknames (given by other regiments) is the "Ladies from Hell" ...and if you are looking for a footballing hero with a connection to the Black Watch look no further than the incredibly gifted Scottish International Jim Baxter. He was even a member of the Sunderland team that played as The Vancouver Royal Canadians in the 1967 United Soccer Association - the pre-cursor to the NASL.
