Loud Mouth Soup
So Champions League on a channel not many people get... Hmmm.
MuirtonPark
But the channel is owned by TFC's parent, MLSE, and no doubt they hope that the "not many people get" part will soon change.
Tuscan
I've already made plans to be at a pub to watch the CCL match. Fak the NA sports-styled All-Star crap. Kevin, will you be free that night to come watch the game or will the world of sports journalism suck away your free time again?

Portuguese Sensation
Considering the CCL is a relativly new concept, it will take time to develop a strong fan base and even boost the image of this tournament. The World Junior Hockey Championships are HUGE - but before 1991, it was a mere blip on the radar. Once TSN started broadcasting it and making it not only a priority but a "must see" event - it soon became part of our fabric and a Christmas time tradition. So baby steps... eventually CCL will gain in popularity and people will start to take notice.
Richard
Well I watched the TFC vs PRI game then the last quarter or so of the All Star Game. What a contrast, the All Star game was FAR superior football.

I would've expect a game involving a USL team and a mid table MLS side to be better in quality than a game between an EPL team and a pick up of the best MLS has to offer. Richard
My point was that I expected much more from TFC but their performance was dismal as usual. There were posters here who derided the MLS allstar game, preferring to watch TFC. Well if you were looking for quality, entertaining football the TFC game was the wrong one to watch. No, there were TFC fans that said, given the choice, they'd rather watch TFC play a meaningful match than watch an exhibition kick-around that had no bearing on TFC's fortunes. Replace "TFC" with the name of any soccer club on the planet, and that statement would be equally applicable.

Well, its an EPL team in preseason form and a collection of MLS players who have never played as a unit before, meeting-up with nothing on the line. quote:Originally posted by Richard There were posters here who derided the MLS allstar game, preferring to watch TFC. Well if you were looking for quality, entertaining football the TFC game was the wrong one to watch. All-star games are big a waste of time. Especially when they occur in the midst of SuperLiga, Champions League, pre-season friendlies with big UEFA clubs and the odd actual MLS regular season match sprinkled in. Five different competions involving MLS teams all within a two week span. Its a mess if you ask me.
loyola
He said "far superior football". Of course, the players involved in that game are much better skills wise than Puerto Rico and TFC players apart maybe for a couple of players. In term of excitement, I didn't watch the All-Star game but I would have a hard time getting excited about this. Everytime TFC lose a game Richard comes up with soccer mom's like analysis to annoy TFC fans, should we really bother?
VPjr
The quality of football on display at the All Star was certainly better than that brutal TFC v PRI match and I should hope so. In the grand scheme of things, TFC is a mediocre to poor team. PRI is the same. Put them together and you are going to get mediocre/poor football. Put them on a poor surface and it will only get worse. Add to that fact that both teams are relatively fatigued, it only lessens the quality of match you will get from these two team. Next Tuesday's return match might be even worse. Everton is a consistent top 8 team in a top 2 league. The MLS all-stars are all auditioning for a better gig somewhere else (save for the guys who are in MLS to retire, like Keller or Ljunberg). I watched about 40 minutes of that match and while I didn't find it particularily entertaining, the quality of the players on the field were heads and shoulders better than the players who took to the pitch at BMO. Again, I should hope so.
dbailey62
Didn't see it mentioned anywhere but TSN drew 41k viewers for the all-star game while 25k watched the TFC game on the digital only Gol TV, their best number ever I'm told.

The moment they won, I figured it wasn't worth watching anymore, and boy was I right. Haven't they won the last 6 or something?
