Jacob Lensky signs for FC Utrecht.

Jacob Lensky has signed a 1 year contract with FC Utrecht. He was on trial a couple times the last few months and has convinced the FC Utrecht staff. FC Utrecht have an option of extending the contract for another 2 years.

Lensky has been told he will start the regular season in the reserves due to a lack of match fitness. As you may know he was retired for a year so he needs build up his form again.

Positive sign is that Lensky did play 78 minutes today with the first team in a 5-1 win against First Division side FC Zwolle. Some pics below. Would be good to see if he will be playing against Ankaraspor and Catania who are Utrecht's next opponents.

FC Utrecht have been surprisingly active this summer in the transfer market and have signed a lot of quality players. If Lensky can be back on form quickly he is at a quality club.

He's listed as a MF on the Utrecht wiki page, but judging by the lineup for the Zwolle game i'm thinking he played defence. Any word on how Utrecht plan on using Lensky?

De man met de baard. Draagt een shirtje met nummer 46, een broekje waarop het getal 44 prijkt. Het duurt deze week even voor toeschouwers langs het trainingsveld hebben uitgevogeld wie de 'mystery man' is die heen en weer pendelt tussen de trainingen van Jong Utrecht en de hoofdmacht.

Zijn naam? Jacob Lensky, 20 jaar oud pas, een linkermiddenvelder die ook een linie terug prima uit de voeten kan.

Lensky, Lensky? Die naam kennen we toch in Nederland?

Klopt. Lensky is een jongen met een verhaal, met een geschiedenis. Hij tekende al eens voor 2,5 jaar in De Kuip. Maar echt een succes werd dat niet. Lensky kwam als 14-jarig jochie al over naar Europa om te slagen in het profvoetbal. Belandde bij het Schotse Celtic, waar hij in de wachtkamer moest zitten tot hij zestien was alvorens hij mee mocht voetballen. Die geschiedenis herhaalde zich in Nederland. Bij Feyenoord, waar hij vervolges als 17-jarige arriveerde, mocht hij pas officiële wedstrijden spelen na zijn achttiende verjaardag. Hij kwam terecht bij Jong Feyenoord, waar coach Arnold Scholten al snel een doorstroming voorzag naar de A-selectie.

Waarom speelde hij maar één wedstrijd in Feyenoord 1?

Uit tegen FC Twente (3-0) verving hij in de rust zijn landgenoot Jonathan de Guzman. Daarin lag eigenlijk ook een beetje het probleem. Iedereen ging hem al snel spiegelen aan deze talentvolle Canadees. Dat pakte niet zo goed uit. Lensky, een ietwat verlegen jongen, had van zichzelf al moeite genoeg met de druk van het spelen bij een grote club als Feyenoord.

Wat gebeurde er?

Lensky kreeg keer op keer te maken met merkwaardige krampen in zijn kuit. Feyenoord schreef die toe aan wedstrijdspanningen. En dat klopte ook wel. De clubleiding besloot om Lensky zo min mogelijk druk op te leggen. Maar de fysiek sterke speler slaagde desondanks niet. Op 5 augustus 2008 stopte de Canadees abrupt met voetballen. Om 'vanwege privéproblemen' terug te gaan naar Canada.

En nu duikt hij op in Utrecht.

Eigenlijk gebeurde dat al in mei van dit jaar. Jong Utrecht speelde een toernooi voor beloften bij FC Breukelen, met Lensky - toen zonder baard - als stagiair. Tijdens zijn sabbatical was zijn voetbalhart toch weer sneller gaan kloppen. Zijn verblijf in Utrecht maakte dat verlangen alleen maar groter. En dus werd Vancouver ingeruild voor Utrecht voor een doorstart van zijn voetbalcarrière.''

Welke indruk maakt hij in Utrecht?

Lensky trainde afwisselend bij de beloften en het A-team. In beide kampen maakte hij indruk. Op het middenveld, maar ook als linksback. En dat is handig te weten aangezien Mihai Nesu de competitiestart mist vanwege een schorsing. Bovendien maakt Nana Asare op trainingen en oefenpotjes zo'n sterke indruk op het middenveld, dat het zonde zou zijn hem een linie te laten zakken. Technisch-directeur Foeke Booy noemt Lensky een 'getalenteerde, gemotiveerde speler'. ,,Hij is linksbenig en zowel verdedigend als aanvallend inzetbaar. Hij past zich snel en gemakkelijk aan. Op trainingen heeft hij ons overtuigd van zijn kwaliteiten.'' Booy noemt hem 'op termijn een aanwinst voor het eerste elftal'.

Dat was toen, nu is nu. Dat ik weer in Nederland terecht ben gekomen is wel logisch, denk ik. Ik ken de competitie toch het beste, ik denk dat ik hier pas. Hier in Utrecht maak ik een nieuwe start. Het voelt goed, zeker nu ik meteen mee mag trainen met het eerste. Misschien speel ik wel mee morgen. (tegen Zwolle vandaag, red). FC Utrecht is een mooie club, waar veel nieuwe spelers rondlopen. For what it's worth, Lensky played the first half today, likely at left-back, in a 3-1 loss in a friendly with Ankaraspor. Utrecht fielded almost an entirely different XI in the 2nd. The game was 1-1 at half.

Well not really, Lensky's parents are from the Czech Republic and that makes him a EU player with no bottom salary. Officially the player still has to make a decision on his international future, but he has mentioned in the past that he would prefer playing for the Czech Republic. He repeated that after the practice sessions in Zoudenbalch.

That's the translation. He could mean a lot of things with this. He would like to play for the team but some things have to change. Maybe someone from the Canadian media should get stuck in, and ask him specifically what he means.

Jacob played 45mins with FC Utrecht in a 0-0 draw against Serie A club Catania.

I totally understand how he feels. Until the CSA turn things around, I would much prefer to play for Germany. And that's probably going to happen because, like Lensky, I've played zero competitive football in my adult life. I sure can't wait to face Jacob head-to-head in qualifying for Euro 2012. [:0]

His only exposure to the CSA and Nats so far is with the Olympic team, a team that had only a 10 day camp and 2 friendlies against College teams to prep. for qualifying. Dasovic even called out the CSA for the bush league manner in which the qualifiers were handled and basically black-listed himself in the process. If that's what he's going on then can you blame him for being pessimistic about dealing with the CSA?
