Tuscan
Geez, he must be pretty sweet if the Nats are wearing HIS jersey [] This is good for Josh, the Turkcell is a good league. If he really impresses, maybe he'll find his way onto the roster of Galatasaray or Basikhtas.
JamboAl
Nice find, VI. I had never heard of the club before but it seems they have just won the Second Division. I don't know if this is a good move but I hear a lot of Aussies go through this route before winding up at a "bigger" club.
Marc
Weird move - from Kaiserslautern to what seems to be a bit of a yo-yo top-flight Turkish team. Hope it works out for him. Living in Turkey may be a neat experience.
redhat
^ I kinda agree. Interesting club history, small stadium crowd (17,000), and most of the past roster had quite a few foreign players but with Turkish backgrounds. May be a career booster for Josh, as the club is still in the Turkish first. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manisaspor
nolando
Didn't see this coming. It might be stupid to say, but I prefer to see him a little further west, if only because guys like Lars and Jazic got a little lost out East. But if he's happy and has a chance to play regularly and be a star, then good on him. Hope this isn't primarily about the money, because he should still have a decent career ahead of him. Q: Is he the first MNT player in Turkey?

Q: Is he the first MNT player in Turkey? It is good for him to be playing 1st division in a good football country like Turkey. But if this team gets relegated I'd hope he has a clause to leave. A lot of players in the region have benefited from playing for unknown teams in less powerful leagues. We know Josh is going to see week in week out action here also. It sucks that he was so close to bundesliga though and missed out, ahh well hes young at least.
Guest Ed
Well personally disappointed to see him leave K'town. Hope this works out for him. BTW, VI, you have scooped the German press. Not a word of this transfer out there yet.

Obinna
I like this move. I would rather see him in top flight Turkey than Bundesliga 2.
ChrisB
.... And after playing in those Turkish stadiums, an away game in Honduras or El Salvador will be a piece of cake!

Juby
quote:Originally posted by ChrisB .... And after playing in those Turkish stadiums, an away game in Honduras or El Salvador will be a piece of cake! I was thinking along those lines too but not so optimistically. I always thought the turkish league as probably the best league in eastern europe so I think it's a great move, I can't tell you how many times friends of mine from asian countries(and a few african countries) shat themselves in anger when one of their players took a big money deal over pretty much any turkish team (of course it's not right to compare the mid east leagues to even the 2nd bundesliga, but the turkish league has a great reputation for good football). I wouldn't say our local internationals are gonna be a peice a cake but theirs a greatlot more external pressure in Turkey then in most of europe and alot of talented players have washed out for just that reason so if he can get a good run then I think it's a good move for Canada. Q: Is he the first MNT player in Turkey? Atiba Hutchinson to Trabzonspor in 2010/2011? Just finished reading an article in CanadaTurk (Turkish Canadian newspaper). Looks like Trabzonspor has been showing keen interest in A.H. Article says he's got 1 year left on his contract with Copenhagen. After that there is a good chance he will move to Trabzonspor. Trabzonspor consistenly finishes in the top 5 in the Turkish Super League.

jonovision
quote:Originally posted by Consigliere Why has Josh Simpson barely played for Canada? Is he in the Gold Cup squad? I wouldn't say he has 'barely played' for Canada. He has 19 caps, and played against Cyprus last month, and as a sub on Tuesday against Guatemala. The problem is that he earned many of those caps in important WCQ matches years ago when he wasn't ready yet. See also: J. Peters
