Whitecaps@Impact 20June

Recommended Posts

Well, that ends the worst week in Whitecaps recent history. Insult -> injury.

Teitur screwed things up by putting Knight at RB, instead of Martin. Martin's a better defender, Knight is a better crosser. That one seems so obvious.

Arze gave the ball away 10 TIMES in the first half alone. He's not good enough.

Cudos for Saputo apologizing, and for tearing a strip off the team after Thursday in the locker room, with the coach present. I gather by his intonation, he wasn't thrilled with the lineup Dos Santos started in that game.

And I'll 18th the motion to fire the camera man. The amount of times the ball was off screen was truly atrocious.

Also, good on the Ultras. Anyone connected with Vancouver appreciates that gesture today.

Gage, Haber and Hirano looked suspect today. Marlon is getting less rusty each outing so he'll be back in top form by next week I hope.

First Impact goal was offside. Camera work was shoddy at best.

Oh well on to the next game. Nice to see CBC coverage. I wonder what the TV numbers are?

Spain vs SA was much better (duh! ;)

I'm a technophobe, so I don't understand how being in HD would make the cameraman seem not only slow but unable to move the camera far enough to one side to see the near corners. I thought HD just meant a clearer picture.

Can someone please explain this? I don't want to be ticked off at the CBC unnecessarily. However, I think HD is a load of crap if it is going to make my TV obsolete even though its only three years old.

I was at the game on Saturday in Section 103 (I came to town to watch TFC win the Cup and stayed the weekend) and while I knew about the UM02 protest ahead of time during the first half all the soccer moms and dads sitting around me didn't know anything about anything. They just thought the terraces there were for people who'd rather stand instead of sit (it sort of pissed me off that security told me I had to sit down during the game, sitting at a footy match seems sacrilegious).

Just before the second half started I seen UM02's flags moving past the southwest corner opening and remarked aloud "It looks like the Ultra's are here" and the guy beside me asked "Who?". I explained about supporters groups and the Ultras protest and once UM02 got in their section and organized and started their chanting and such everyone was enthralled. Me not so much. Although I was impressed by their ability to get loud enough to be heard over all the kids and soccer parents using those cheesy Oasis Laminated Noisemakers that were being handed out before the game. I took one too as a souvenir from the game.

We've been known to cut through many things easily:

Across the stadium, and we're still louder than people right above the camera.

HD is typically filmed, like movies, in widescreen, a rectangular format. To make movies fit into a regular square TV, you can choose two options: black bars at the top and bottom of the screen or cutting off the sides. In this case, CBC cut the sides off for its standard broadcast, but didn't alert the cameramen to keep the cameras centered (they were looking at a wide image, where they could see the ball on the side).

Here's a difference between the two formats:

I dunno, haven't seen one.

Oh, I get it now, it's surprising that a team that is winning their first championship ever is louder than fans across the stadium watching their team lose 6-1?

;)

What's this you say? The CBC was ignoring all the stuff far out west, and all the stuff far out east, and instead focused on the centre of the universe? I'm shocked!

Or that 300+ of them travelled 600km on a weeknight to watch their team, who had to win by four goals despite having only scored four in a game once in its history.

You want to get into a pissing match over whose fans are better, fine. I'm not that interested myself, but I won't hesitate to throw it back at you.

I see, thank you. Another problem though, which I can't see being related is that the cameraman seemed very slow. Even considering the sides of the image being cut off, the ball was sometimes nowhere in sight. With such a wide angle, I don't see how even while watching in HD that the ball could have been in view. Again, I don't know anything about this stuff, so I could be completely wrong.
