Just a heads-up that The Score is broadcasting the entire UEFA U21 Championship:

(This may already be general knowledge, but I haven't seen it posted here and I just found out about it when I accidentally came across a game the other day (then again, I don't usually watch The Score, so I would have missed any ads for it).)

Quick write up on how I have seen the group matches so far. I am by no means claiming to be an expert, I am simply saying my feelings so far.

Serbia - were very good vs Italy and a bit unlucky not to win. Italian keeper was impressive on a couple of occasions and IMO was the main reason they only got 1 pt from the match. The draw vs Belarus must be bitterly disappointing considering Sweden beat Belarus 5-1.

Sweden - big win vs Belarus to open the tournament. Loss to Italy was down to Italy taking their goals very well and Sweden not taking their opportunities. Were a man up for more than half the match and they still didnt take advantage. If they could hit the target more often they would be 2-0 instead of 1-1.

Italy - my pick to win the tournament. Italy havent played all that well but i reckon they will do as Italian teams do so often in international tournaments: get results even when they dont play very well and then continue to improve as the tournament progresses. First goal vs Sweden was pure class and second was good header from a well taken free kick.

Cant knock a 1-0-1 record when you havent come close to playing your best and you have played more than half of one of your two matches a man down.

Finland - Looked good vs England and Germany. Record is 0-2 though, so not much more to say here other than they must learn to turn their possesion and chances into goals. Slightly unlucky, slightly naive, I think. Wouldnt surprise me if they beat Spain.

Belarus - Havent seen much of their matches so far but i think they will go home relatively happy having scored a goal and gotten a decent result vs Serbia. Cant expect to get much more vs Italy.

England - Other favourite for me. Will likely make the final vs Italy. Could easily win it if they step up on the day.

Against Spain they were very solid. Got the result they wanted vs Finland, and bc they actually only scored the winner after having gone down to 10 men made the result even more impressive.

Hard working all over the pitch and their midfield probably have best group of grafters who can pop up and score goals.

Germany - Havent looked very good to be honest but like Italy are 1-0-1, so cant be dismissed. Two quick goals vs Finland were impressive. I dont see them getting past the semi-finals if they are paired with Italy.

Spain - think they have been unfairly called tournament favourites bc of how many of their eligible players are in South Africa. With those players they are the team to beat, without them they are average with one or two top players. Going home after their third group game vs Finland, I think winless.

Semi-finals:

Italy to beat Germany.

England to beat Serbia.

Champions: Italy.

Highest Goal Scorers:

3 - Acquafresca (Italy)

3 - Campbell (England)

3 - Berg (Sweden)

Let's see how my predictions pan out.

ps-Notice all the non-Germans and non-Brits on the pitch today????? We aren't alone in Canada, truly, we aren't. Players are all looking to get into the top 10 international sides, maybe top 15 ahead of all the rest.

I could be wrong, but I think black/brown people who are born in England or Germany do get citizenship. Actually, I belive that's true in Canada too.

Dude, do some research before posting stuff like this.

Amacpher, Dude, listen to the announcers talking about all the other national squads that want these players. Castro had a trial in Spain and then chose Germany because Spain didn't pick him. Ozil is wanted desperately by Turkey due to his ancestry. The list goes on.

You'll Never Walk Alone - why did you turn the comment I made into a racist thing??? Not quite sure what you'd get out of making that assumption of my post.

All I was saying was there are a lot of immigrant families on these teams who select Germany as their side ... as opposed to their nation of heritage. Whereas in Canada they support their nation of heritage over Canada. IE, Canada is similar to other countries "losing" players to the "big" countries. Nice to see most of the German's actually born in Germany though!

^Hey, you called the English players non-Brits. That is patently false. In the absolute best case scenario, that comment suggests a cracker from the Valley who seriously needs to get out more. Assuming this is the case, I can tell you, because I remember quite clearly reading an article in the local paper when he was a school boy star, that Nedum Onuoha was raised in Manchester. Muamba grew up in Hackney I believe. Every other player, if they have a dual nationality, it would still be British. So how else are they non-Brits?

For the record, I of all people could care less about your post. I actually found it quite funny and was trying to make light of it. I do think racism in football is a particular tragedy though. And, especially given that half our own team or more is black, I think perhaps it should be corrected. Is Rick Titus in the house? :D

EDIT: For shabby grammar.

I raise my hand then and apologize....pretty similarly "for shabby grammar." 100% certainty the post of mine wasn't racist!!!!

As I said before....what I was trying to say, but came across poorly, the Germans and Brits are filled with players who are perfectly eligible to play for other nations, but of course chose Germany/England. Whereas, it seems a lot of people in Canada who are born and raised here (like those players such as Onuoha in England) only seem to settle for Canada because they aren't selected for their other eligible nations.

Thanks for the reply YNWA. CHEERS.

I think it's still 50/50 though.

Nuri Sahin and Töre (Chelsea) both opted to play for Turkey. They would have made the German team for sure.

There are quite a numbers of really talented German-Turkish players who right now play for the Turkish youth NTs.

It's often also a case of mentality. Most african-Germans and Polish-Germans opt to play for Germany while a lot of Turkish-Germans and playyers with a Balkan background don't. They often are raised a lot more nationalistic by their parents.

Both Altintop brothers, Bastürk, the Kovac brothers and Klasnic were also born and raised in Germany and did not want to play for us.

It's slowly changing and I like it.

If Germany wasn't such a successfull football country things wouldn't look different to Canada at all though.

I am still surprised that Italy didnt get past Germany after having watched those opening two matches of both teams but that's football for ya.

Didnt actually get a chance to see any matches after the the first two as I have moved to Egypt for work. I am going to the Egypt v Rwanda WCQ match on Sunday in Cairo which will be sweet.

Edit: Deleted a question that I had answered after re-reading one of the previous posts.
