Guest Ed
The club my kids are coming up through and that I have coached in for the last 10 years is starting the process of building a facility of its own, with both outdoor and indoor fields. Sweet. Congrats. Good to see. That makes 3 clubs in Calgary with facilities that I know of (Foothills & Chinook being the other 2). Southwest United have been the team to beat for a few years now and have a very good program. Any word on the size of the indoor facility?
Guest Ed
^ It's all very preliminary right now. SWU only has been around for 5 years or so as it was formed by amalgamating several smaller SW Calgary clubs -- Shawnee, Fish Creek, Canyon Meadows, SouthFour (my local club prior to merge) and CedarRidge (where Hargreaves played U13 soccer). But the club has done extremely well. Not so much happening on the boys side yet but a boatload of young ladies are on NCAA sholarships south of the border (they host a combine for Alberta girls approaching graduation from high school in June where NCAA and CIS scouts come up - "The SWU Club is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the first annual Calgary South West United College Search Showcase on June 26-28, 2009. The purpose of event is to provide female players aspiring to play at the collegiate level a platform to showcase their talents in front of top Canadian and US university coaches. The showcase is committed to excellence and is open to all 1992 and 1993 and 1994 born players with final team selection based on regional and national success to ensure a competitive environment for all teams and coaches in attendance. Please visit the showcase website at www.cswusoccershowcase.ca" One girl went to North Carolina last year so you know she would be highest quality. "The SWU Club has had much success over the last several years with over 75 female players earning soccer scholarships in Canada and the United States while also attaining national prominence. We have the expertise, experience and knowledge to make this a great event for all and are excited to be able to deliver this showcase to you."
