San Jose either has another signing in the works and needed to cut salary or have given up on the year and wanted to cut salary. Good deal for TFC either way though. If they can sign Gerba they might save their season with these two deals.

Have to wonder why San Jose is getting rid of Garcia, though I have heard that his on-field antics have certainly been pissing off opposition players to the extent that they were quoted as saying they "loved beating" San Jose.

I hope that Mo is actually able to sign Gerba, as that will make this move a little more palatable from a Canuck perspective. I would rather they have released Marco Velez & Edwards than Sutton. I realize that Sutton was making more than Edwards but I'd rather have the better talent on the bench to be called upon. And it doesn't seem right that in order to make a move to get another defender because Velez is so crap that Sutton has to pay the price while Velez keeps his job.

This is a good move for Toronto since they will be losing Wynne for a big part of the summer with the Confederations Cup. The move might also mean that they are expecting to lose Serious or Attakora for the Gold Cup. Either way, it helps on the defensive end.

Gerba doesn't have a home in Europe, so maybe he might find a home in Toronto. It might be someone that can actually put the ball in the net for TFC. At this point, the Barrett/Vitti experiment isn't working.

Sutton is now free to back-up Hirschfeld at the Gold Cup. Too bad he was released. He should be able to find a job in the USL, but he's also getting up there in age, so I don't know if another MLS team will want to take a chance on him.

Sutton will sign anywhere in MLS or USL that they need a keeper badly. If no spots are open I can see him not signing anywhere. I doubt he will get anywhere close to the $157 000 base salary he was making at TFC. He was overpaid for his ability level even if he was the starter let alone being the backup. Yet another example of a player Mo paid too much for even though he did have a decent year last year. What other team in North America would have paid Sutton that much? Mo seems to have very little concept of the domestic market price for players.

Any chance Yallop wants to sign Sutton at a lower price? Doesn't look like Cannon is having the greatest year down there.

I was wondering that myself. Not wanting him at the price he was at and the fact that Yallop knows abou thim from his days with the National team. Signing for a new MLS or USL team would make him unavailable for the Gold Cup too. He wouldn't leave right after signing.

I don't understand San Jose's reasoning: Garcia and the rights to Ali for a 3rd rounder? Seems lopsided.

The TSN article made it sound like an undisclosed amount of money went to San Jose. I assume the MLS salary cap only pertains to salaries, and not to transfers.

A bit rough for Sutton. I wonder if Vancouver would want to sign him, perhaps only temporarily, if they qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League.

San Jose signing Sutton at a reduced price of about half of what he was making and then using the difference to sign another defender (Garcia's base salary was $190 000) would make this deal make more sense. I can't see Vancouver signing him because I don't think Sutton is a better keeper than Nolly.

Specially with Sutton performance last week in Vancouver he didn't help his cause if he wanted to play with the Caps.

Agree that a move in San Jose could make sense for him since Yallop knows him and Cannon isn't having a great year. I think SJ back up keeper is former Impact back up Andrew Weber.

Releasing Sutton has been on the cards for months now as Edwards would have been traded prior to the start of the season if Sutton and Frei were seen as the keepers moving forward. Sutton was making too much money to sit on the bench simple as that so it was just a case of Frei proving himself sufficiently as the starter this season before he would be on his way. I suspect there's a good chance you will still get your wish on Velez. If Gerba is to be added another senior roster player will have to be moved out in some way.
