Impact vs Caps

Recommended Posts

^I was highly disappointed by the Impact's penchant for falling down and feigning injury at the slightest of contact when protecting a one-goal lead in the second half. The referee and assistant (on the east sideline) had a nightmare in that second half.

It was a good game I respect the Caps but if the Impact were Italy for falling down the Caps were Argentina. Remind me again who got the yellow for diving?

Why would you think it was nightmare ?...

Seriously as you get out of Canada and play in Concacaf you learn that a lot of tactics used are successfull, the referees have it in their power to apply the laws of the game .. thats what they do, one has to accept if a referee does not make a call, then the laws of the game were not broken. Its simple really, no call no foul, dont whine.

Not to mention they got 6 minutes added time. 6!!! And Charles rolled around for 5 minutes before being perfectly fine.

The 6 minutes of extra time was because of all the time killed by all of the numerous times Montreal players rolled around on the field. Speaking of people rolling around and being fine, how about Sebrango after nailing Jay Nolly in the box. Call didn't go his way and he jumps up (miraculous recovery) and shoves the ref, and beyond and sane reasoning doesn't get a red!

I'm not blaming the ref though. The number of times Whitecaps players fired the ball over the net from easy shooting distance was embarrassing, and it is every game.

Charles was subbed out shortly after trying to restart play. If he is down it is like Adrian Serioux not getting up. Those 2 don't dive or fake injury. If they are down I'm worried.

The time waste tactics and diving got a bit much for me by both teams. Both Eddie and Ansu deserved their yellows and Eddie was lucky to get only that IMHO. 5-6 minutes was what I had on my mental timer for injury time so it was about right.

Now if Montreal can play like that against TFC we're on to the CCL [8D]

This seemed to afflict both teams... I guess if you can finish consistently you're playing in a higher tier.

Watched the game on usllive archives and yes Grande had a solid game, but thats what it was one good game. IMO he's been completely inexistant before this game (with possible few exceptions). He knows that he's the man that has to carry and boost this squad, now if only he'd play like this on a more constant basis...

I had to have a laugh at the USLlive commentator (or is he a regular Whitecaps commentator?) on calling the former Impact coach "Limni-itis." Is that a syndrome that affects teams, causing them to concede 3 goals in under 8 minutes in CCL quarter-final action? Maybe it is a good thing Montreal got rid of it...err...him. [:P]

It was great to see Haber put in that scrambly sitter. Nice shot under the circumstances. How is he doing this season? What are his strong and weak points? What kind of player is he? An out-and-out striker or more of a set-up man? Better in the center or more of a winger? From what I've seen, he seems very comfortable in the center, using his size and strength fully to his advantage. I'd love to hear some opinions from some of you who are at the games regularly.

Haber is a work in progress. One man's troubles is another man's blessing.

Haber wouldn't be getting nearly as much time in if Marlon James was fit.

Haber is quick (both quick feet and pacey runner)for a man his size, he is good at running through the backline and also good at holding the ball up (not as good as Gbeke mind you)

The Caps seem to be feeding the balls in high to Gbeke and Haber lately, with them holding it up and distributing it wide to Toure etc.

We have to remember Haber is still pretty young, but this amount of playing time was probably not expected by him nor Thordasson. I'd imagine he'd go into a rotation with Gbeke once James is back, fit, and finds some form.

Just some of my perceptions on Haber.

I've seen it afflict quite a lot of teams in the USL. I realize if they were better players they'd be playing at a higher tier, but geez, at the USL-1 pro level you'd think they wouldn't miss nearly as many shots as they do, and not by such wide or high margins.

I've seen Haber 3 times this season, each against Montreal

Sunday, he looked a bit tired and also both Mayard and Pizzolitto had a good game

And the midfield triangle of the Impact was superior to the duo Chin (awful) - Nash

I've also seen the duo James - Gbeke

I found there was some missing link between them and the midfield. With Haber, it seems that other players have more “collective ease” on the field (Touré is also better now that during the first games of the season). James looked more like “I put trouble in the defense, you give me the ball how I want to”, Haber more like “I've to do this to help my teammates to give me the ball in a good position”. My view, on a few games.

For Sunday game, some of your younger players were tired or maybe still on the high after Toronto. Impact played good and prevented the other Whitecaps to do harm.

Italy and Argentina? More like El Salvador and Canada.

I lost a bit of respect for Montréal last night watching them flop all over the place. I'd never seen that sort of thing from them before, and I hope it was a one off. What was worse was the ref and the linesman on the east touchline were falling for their antics every time. Also, how can a player possibly shove a referee and not be sent off?

I'm sure that ref and possibly that east-side linesman must have CONCACAF aspirations.

As for Haber, that was his best game of the season so far in my opinion. Before last night, he's almost looked afraid of the ball. He's big, quick with bags of skill, but little confidence it seems. However, I hope that goal last night will help him along in that department. He has been running with the ball more as the season has gone on...at the beginning he would just get rid of it as soon as it came near him.

The first half seemed to be pretty even, but in the second half both teams really started running at each other and opening things up, but then the Impact players didn't seem to be able to take two steps without falling down and getting some help from the ref.

However, Vancouver just didn't produce enough to win. They had chances and didn't bury them.

I don't like diving either but both teams dove last night and the Caps fans who are complaining about the Impact doing this obviously had their rose tinted glasses on when the Caps players were diving. The worst dive of the night was Toure's one in the box for which he received a yellow card. You may not like how the ref called the game but he called it fairly in that he applied his style equally to both teams. He let the teams play and was very reluctant to call fouls even when warranted. He certainly could have red carded Sebrango but he equally could have red carded Hirano for his brutal foul when he was the last man back.

In the Caps games I have watched, Haber is often the best player. If he can start finishing his chances consistently he will probably find his way back to Europe soon. He certainly seems capable of playing at a higher level than USL/MLS. I haven't seen much of James but Haber seems to be a lot better player than Gbeke. On our side, Placentino has had a good season so far but had a poor game last night. I was surprised it took so long for MDS to replace him with Gai. I would like to see more of Gai because he seemed quite impressive the few times he has played this year. Luckily Grande was better than he has been for most of the season so far. If we can get both Placentino and Grande playing well we should have a lot of dangerous crosses coming in to the box.
