Aside from Russia, what other teams have a Dutch coach?

Australia , Hungary , Belgium , Poland are some of the bigger nations who have a Dutch coach.

Australia are already qualified and Hungary and Poland have a very good chance.

All the cracks about OFC and Australia just proved that it's 1000x esier to qualify via AFC. I wouldn't be surprised if New Zealand even wins the playoff. [8)]

I would.

New Zealand gets weaker every year, they are now constantly in danger of being ousted by incredibly rank amateurs from nothing islands. 2009 is not 1981 when Asia was extremly weak, with the traditonal football powers of Iran and Itaq in terrible internal shape, and the oil rich Arab states not yet serious about competing. If they get some decent officiating, we are going to be very surprised by the Asian squads next year.

I hear that before every World Cup and every time Asian teams perform the worst out of any confederation.

I didn't know that Iran and Iraq were in such good internal shape today, but DPR Korea is like the world's retarded sister, living in the middle-ages! And its DPR Korea that are most likely the ones to face New Zealand.

The only Asian team I see improving significantly over the next 20 years is India, due to economy, demographics and the inevitability that football must become more popular though globalization. In NorthEast Asia and the middle-east, football is already huge so if we were to see a big rise by those nations it would've already happened.

FIFA has to figure out something with Oceania. Otherwise, NZ will be there to stink up every FIFA event ex Men's WC because they now get a direct access pass.

Even with the men's WC, they're in group with only Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Fiji & Vanuatu. And then they only have to play the fifth place AFC team to get in. So, it's actually getting easier to qualify via Oceania.

Something has to be done about Oceania. I think New Zealand should still have to beat a south american team like Australia always had to because this is now a joke. If FIFA is going to let the Oceania champ play through Asia then they should blend the oceania champ into the Asian group stages somehow.

Yeah with the Aussies gone I guess OFC should have 0.25 spots. It would've worked out perfectly for UEFA too. Instead UEFA has a tough number to work with and therefore the worst second-place team in that group-stage is eliminated altogether.

What it should have been is:

OFC #1 v AFC #5

winner of that match v second-place UEFA team chosen via a draw

BTW, New Zealand played Italy tough today. Lost 4-3. I still think they can beat the AFC #5, but yeah, that shouldn't be enough to qualify to the World Cup.

With still 4 games remaining in Conmebol, Brasil after beating Paraguay 2-1 and Chile beating Bolivia 4-0 are sitting comfortably in 1st and 2nd place at the verge of qualifying for S.A. Argentina on 3rd place (coached by Maradona) continue to falter after losing to Ecuador 1-2. Next games are in September and last games in October.

Maradona is extremely naive, although he has a big heart and is inspiring to his players. He told the press 3 dyas before he would sit back and counterattasck, and that is exactly what he did. irst, you do not tell everyone what you are doing. Two, that is not how you use a talented Argie squad; third, he did not bother to change his tactics even when it was obvious it was not working.

Boy those Ecuadorians are fast and dodging! Argentina should not have killed off their 15% black population in the late 19th Century.

Argentina is in a bit of trouble now. They have a 4 point lead on the all important 6th-position (Uruguay), but the Argies next 2 matches are Brasil at home and Paraguay away. While Uruguay have Peru away and Colombia in Montevideo. That 4 point lead will be down to zero unless Argentina's play improves. What's worse in that on the final day of qualifying its Uruguay v Argentina head-to-head. Uruguay at home!

Interesting to note that Chile federation just announced that the fence erected to prevent fans from invading the pitch will be removed starting their next qualifying against Venezuela in September at their national stadium. They feel fans behavior has improved and s.h.i.t disturbers have been eradicated to warrant such a move. I wonder what referees think of that.

Canada might be well placed to shift to Oceania ... giving the confederation a replacement for Australia, or setting the stage for Taiwan and Japan to shift over, making it much like CONCACAF.

Just imagine the excuses for not Qualfying .. jet lag.. Japan to far away to fly too... how do you expect us to beat Cook Islands and Fiji.

Geez its beautiful for the CSA to make the move.

Can you imagine if North Korea was put in the same group as the US or even a North Korea / South Korea game?

The latter is essentially impossible.

The buildup to the potential North Korea - USA match would be fun to follow. Add Venezuela to the group for added amusement. (Although TBH I can see myself reaching for the remote 10 minutes into those matches. ) :D
