Canucks in Germany - off season

Oh boy, lots of news on the Hoilett front.

Basically, David Jainiel was 90% probability gone to FSV Mainz 05 this coming season on a 1 year deal, which would leave him able to sign with the Bundesliga club at the end of the season when his contract with Blackburn expires.

However, to the surprise of everyone, his work permit appeal was approved. No one expected this, least of all Blackburn it turns out.

Now, Allardyce has to have a look at David and see where he goes from there.

Mainz's management are firmly convinced that he will come to Mainz, his first choice. Reportedly EVERY Bundesliga club other than Bayern had expressed some interest in him.

In the meantime, younger brother Jaineil has definitely switched to Mainz's U19 team.

Training round-up. Nik Ledgerwood gets a knock while playing 2nd half in an exhibition game with FSV Frankfurt. Taken out with 15 minutes or so left, as a precautionary measure.

Maycoll Canizales scores in a PK shutout for Bonner SC as they eliminate Borussia Moenchengladbach's U23s' in a local cup competition.

Adam Straith is listed on the U23 roster for Energie Cottbus, but is in the official team photo for the senior team - sounds terrific. Senior team is training hard on the Ostsee, here is Lars and I believe that #38 in the picture below is young Adam but am not 100% sure:

I did not see any other thread. But yesterday I heard on the radio, that FSV Mainz 05 has a great interest in David Hoilett. According to their Manager Heidel, they already talked to each other and David is willing to play for the promoting team. Everything is only up to Blackburn Rovers

I posted it 4 or 5 posts above although I see I mistyped - it should have read 'David Hoilett' not 'David Jaineil'. His younger brother is already with the U19's of Mainz and Mainz was 90% confident of signing David Jr as everyone thought his work permit appeal would be turned down. To the shock of all, it was accepted and now he has to see if he is in Allardyce's plans. Now Mainz figures they have a 50% chance of him coming to the Bundesliga side.

Thanks to Richard and the BC Soccer Web for this. Three more Whitecaps residency players on trial at Energie Cottbus, including the prolific goalscorer Jerome Baker. One more joins Bundesliga surprise team of last season - Hoffenheim. Also updates on Straith, Porter (staying in Cottbus), and Greg Smith (returning to Canada to attend UBC):

So when does the "statute of limitations" run out on the loan deals for Straith & Porter and Cottbus finally have to buy them outright from the Whitecaps?

Any updates on Sidra? Isn't he at Cottbus as well?

Riley O'Neill is now trialing with Goslarer SC 08:

"Gestern wurde bekannt, dass der Verein Interesse an Riley O‘Neill bekundet hat. Der Kanadier wechselte im Vorjahr vom SV Wilhelmshaven zu Eintracht Braunschweig, konnte sich dort aber nicht durchsetzen und spielte meist im Oberligateam."

Vancouver Whitecaps' residency program has proven to be quite outstanding since its existence it has helped develop many players who have moved on to better things. Ethan Gage a former residency player now plays for the whitecaps' first team, Adam Straith & Kyle Porter are the residency duo who currently play for FC Energie Cottbus after successful trials. the new bath of players who head off to germany on the 19th I believe will do quite well especially Julien Latendresse-Lévesque the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Goalkeeper. Also I was fortunate enough to catch 2 friendly games which the residency boys played against Canada's NTC, There was a young lad striker black male about 5'10-11 caught my eye he played quite well in both games but I have not seem him since so I am to think he wasn't signed which was a mistake I think but to the new caps players heading to germany i wish them al goodlcuk.

Update on David Hoilett. He supposedly might see some action on Saturday as Blackburn Rovers take on Leeds United in a friendly. Agent Andreas Kirsch is going to England to see if they can work out a loan deal with Mainz 05.

Hoilett came on for Diouf in the 72nd minute.

"The travelling fans got their first glimpse of all of the club's summer signings as David Hoilett and Elrio van Heerden were both introduced in the second half."

^ Basically says that Rob is finally back on the pitch but taking it easy as he continues his rehab. Wasn't pleased with his production last year. Sayts the team concentrated on shoring up the defense after the winter break last season and hopes they can now work on improving their attack this season. Likes the new trainer, Michael Frontzeck. Finally, Rob and his wife are expecting their first any day.

Nik Ledgerwood goes 90 minutes at right back for FSV Frankfurt in their last friendly of the season, a 5-0 romp over a lower division team.

More to come on this, but Nik and team play this weekend in the opening round of the DFB Pokal (German FA Cup) hosting Paul Stalteri and Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Bits from around the Regional Leagues (4th division).

Regional League West

Lots of Canadian news / connections in this league.

Kent O'Connor has been released by Eintracht Trier - destination unknown.

Massih Wassey (21 years old, Cdn citizenship) has been plucked from Preussen Muenster to Schalke 04 amateurs (also in Regional League West). Moving to a big club is a GOOD thing.

http://www.schalke04.de/3239.html

Alexander Elliott remains with Mainz 05 amateurs, senior club promoted to Bundesliga this season.

Gianluca Zavarise remains with VfL Bochum amateurs.

Maycoll Canizales remains with Bonner SC.

Regional League North

No further presence of Canadians in this league.

Jonathan Bourgault ended his loan with SV Wilhelmshaven and is now back with FC St Pauli and should see games in the Bundesliga 2 this season.

Kennedy Owusu-Ansah has been released from Hertha Berlin amateurs and failed to catch on with Hansa Rostock amateurs.

Regional League South

No Canucks.

I was just checking their website and yeah, he's not there:

How about Robert Kerek at Bahlinger?

Answered my own question:

http://www.bahlingersc.de/48.html

Robert Kerek appears to have been demoted to the 2.Mannschaft (or the reserve team) which plays in the Landesliga - Ed need some help on this one, what level is that and what region do they play in. Last year the reserves played in the Bezirksliga for what it's worth...

Robert appears in last years team photo with the first team (he's in the front row beside the physio):
