I've watched all but one TFC game this year and I haven't notice that many bad calls. Yes, they have been unlucky with the handballs calls but in my opinion they were all good calls or non-call. I think this fixation on the refs often comes from fans who have troubles analyzing the game so they point out to one or two particular calls to explain a particular result. John Carver, not a fan of course, was that type of guy..... I think the overall level of officiating is decent in MLS. I watch European games all the time and I see bad calls there as well, it's part of the game and until I see a study indicating that MLS refs make more mistakes than Euro refs, I will always believe the claim that MLS refs are subpar is BS. I like this comment loyola. It's well said. I still feel however that North American refs in MLS matches make some questionable calls. What's a good ref? The guy who reffed the game last night (Van - Mtl). I felt he did a good job.

Yes, the guy yesterday, from what I saw of the game was pretty good IMO. Not the first time I see him and I think he does usually well. I agree that North American refs do make mistakes but I've watched a lot of soccer lately and the worst performance I've seen by a ref was in the CL 1/2 final between Barca and Chelsea. It's the only game this year I felt the ref completly lost it. As much as some</u> TFC fans love to play the victim card with the ref, I think their games were well officiated so far minus a few calls/non-calls. I agree with this. I think especially when you watch a lot of one league your opinion of the reffing level goes down. When I lived in Germany and watched a lot of Bundesliga I always thought the reffing was terrible. Now I watch the occassional Bundesliga match and am less bothered by the reffing mostly because I am not seeing as many mistakes because I am watching less games and mostly the most prominent ones with the best refs. I also don't find that EPL is all that well reffed so I find it pretty hard to complain so much about MLS in this regard. It is true that any league can and should improve its reffing but look at how bad the recent Champions League was reffed yet we didn't have CBC polls asking whether: The standard of officiating in UEFA is disgraceful. Guest HamiltonSteelers
To be honest, and I don't think I'm speaking with any bias, but I've felt the 4 canada cup games in Toronto has been some of the best officiated games there. Don't get me wrong, the average TFC supporter wants to see the ref harmed after any foul, legit or not... I think that's par for the course. But the number of calls I'd dispute seem to far outweigh those against TFC rather than the opposition. I've averaged roughly three really weak foul calls against Toronto per game. Those staggeringly 'WTF' kind of calls... I do think MLS refs are well below what I would deem as acceptable and I would go as far as saying the officials who run CSL games do a better job (but that may be the different caliber of play in the lower ranks) than MLS. I do believe that ALL MLS officials should be full-time refs. Not just four of them. That will at least help the quality of refs improve.
