jpg75
quote: Originally posted by El Hombre Actually, what you said was that he isn't as fast as Wynne, which is a pretty specious argument because there are very few footballers that are. This entire thread started with the suggestion that Jackson should be playing up front with Friend, which I think is a valid consideration. Friend should not be playing alone up top and I think a speedy forward would be a good partner. Now, as for his pace, of the players in our player pool that play up front, I believe that Jackson is the fastest we have: Radzinski has pretty much retired, Simpson is more of an out wide player as is Peters. I doubt that Dero is faster than Jackson. More creative maybe, but not faster. As for forwards, not sure if he's faster than Hoilett. Probably has a little less pace than Ricketts, but has more skill I believe. As for the level of L2, as Toronto MB said, if a player his age scored 20 goals in a USL season as Jackson has, I think they would get some consideration as well. Actually I said "he doesn't have top end speed". When it was suggested that that was a ludicrous assertion, and an indirect comparison was made to Wynnes' speed i then said "Jackson does not have the same speed as Marvell Wynne, it may not even be close". I think we have better options up front than Jackson, some of whom are faster than him. DeRo is definitely faster than Jackson, and better. Hoilett may not be noticeably faster than Jackson, but he is a far better player. Simpson has played withdrawn striker for FCK, not the first option IMO but it's an option regardless. And let's not count out Radz, he may still surprise us all and suit up again. I'd also prefer a 4-1-4-1 and sacrifice Jackson if it meant having a better player on the field instead of him - like Nsaliwa or Imhof - and freeing up De Guzman to play a more advanced position. Not sure the comparison of scoring 20 goals in a USL season is fair since the season in the English lower leagues is 50% longer. All that said, i'd still be willing to have Jackson on the roster if we have a few no-shows. I'd even give him a trot out with some late game sub appearances. elricko
My hometown is Gillingham, I started going to Priestfield Stadium, watching them way back in the late 50's----what , yes........ I am 64!Then started going up the smoke, and became a huge Chelsea fan in the early 60's. Still follow both of them from rainy, wet, soggy, drenched, drizzly. Down the line, I’d love to return to my hometown club, Toronto FC." God (and Keays) love him - he sounds like my kind of Canadian.
