The manager, gave nothing but huge praise for Jackson in his post-match interview. He basically said this guy has a huge upside and huge potential.. Jackson and his Gills will now be playing on their biggest stage in the League Two Final at Wembley on May 23rd!

Surely Jackson just booked his place on our Cyprus and Gold Cup squads as well. Dare we even venture that he could start in our revamped 4-4-2 next to Friend? Seems like a perfect pair.

Sadly I'm due to head back to Canada on May 21st for the summer. Best of luck to the Vee's headed to Wembley - should be a great time.

Yeah I expect to see Jackson feature next to Friend in Cyprus.

So being in the final, has his club won promotion to League One?

No, they will need to win in the final in order to be promoted...

A). Yes. That may be well worth a look see.

B). No. Gills still have one more match to play. One more match, against upstart Shrewsbury no less. A week this Saturday.

Hope someone finds it on the net somewhere!

He had a nice game today, but let's not go overboard with slotting him into the starting lineup of the MNT just yet. For me, he doesn't have top end speed to stretch opposing defences and that's the quality we need to compliment a big man like Friend.

Jackson doesn't have top end speed to unsettle defences? Please tell me this is some sick joke or sarcasm? The guy is lightning, thats like saying Jaime Peters and Marvell Wynne don't have the speed to play on the wing. He did stretch Aston Villa with his speed but I guess we are dealing with Cyprus here.... :D and no I realize Cyprus is pretty good just Aston Villa is really good.

This is good news. According to the match report this was Jackson's 19th and 20th goals of the season. Based on his play this season he definitely deserves a call up for the gold cup.

We'll most likely be missing a lot of top players anyways so Jackson's inclusion in the squad probably won't shut out any higher skilled players. Personally I'd like to see Jackson at the front with Ali Gerba. They don't compliment each other really that well but both can find the back of the net.

Then tell me why the few times i've seen him play he's constantly getting caught from behind by defenders? eg. In the 87th min. in yesterday's match he had a clear yard or two on the defender for a breakaway about 40 yards from goal and by the time he made it to the top of the box they were level. He ended up taking the ball to the corner flag to waste time instead of possibly completing his hat-trick!

Jackson does not have the same speed as Marvell Wynne, it may not even be close. I'll give him credit for being quick, he's got a good first step, but that's not the same as being fast.

Take a look at the clip of his goal against Villa again:

He beats Zat Knight in a foot race, that's like beating up on a handicapped kid. Notice the LB and other CB, look where they are when Jackson turns Knight and how much distance they close down before Jackson gets his shot off. Tomasz Radzinski in his prime would have left them in his dust, and probably still would at the age of 35.

First off, please don't put info like this in the thread of the title. I had just finished watching the game that I recorded prior to coming on here.

Secondly, having watched both legs of this promotion playoff, the level of League 2 is probably no better than USL1. Lets not get carried away here.

JPG - you don't have to rate Jackson but to say he doesn't have pace is a bit bewildering.

Yes, Zat Knight isn't the fastest, but he has stood in successfully against top premier league strikers over his career.

I've seen Simeon play a couple times live this year, he certainly has pace. With the exception of maybe Josh Simpson - I would say he is the fastest attacker in our player pool. Hume and DeRosario have comparable speed, but I think Jackson would get the nod.

Yes - we are all aware that League Two is likley equivalent to USL. But if such a young player as Jackson were constantly scoring goals, in crucial games, at the USL level - I think we would all welcome taking a look.

Regardless of Gills promotion - Jackson will be playing at least in League One and has been linked to the championship. So given his youth, I think there is some reason to be excited.

I never said i didn't like Simeon Jacksons' game nor did i say he was slow, i just don't think he has blazing speed. He's a good, young player with decent skills and has the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. He has the potential to play at higher level and he has a future with the MNT. Now, you saw the game yesterday, so you must have seen him get closed down on his breakaway late in the game that led him to take the ball to the corner instead of taking a shot on net?

As for players that are faster than him on Canada; Radzinski, Simpson, DeRo, Nsaliwa, Peters...

I say we hold a track-meet!! You're right in pretty much everything you said - I agree.

Actually, what you said was that he isn't as fast as Wynne, which is a pretty specious argument because there are very few footballers that are.

This entire thread started with the suggestion that Jackson should be playing up front with Friend, which I think is a valid consideration. Friend should not be playing alone up top and I think a speedy forward would be a good partner. Now, as for his pace, of the players in our player pool that play up front, I believe that Jackson is the fastest we have: Radzinski has pretty much retired, Simpson is more of an out wide player as is Peters. I doubt that Dero is faster than Jackson. More creative maybe, but not faster.

As for forwards, not sure if he's faster than Hoilett. Probably has a little less pace than Ricketts, but has more skill I believe.

As for the level of L2, as Toronto MB said, if a player his age scored 20 goals in a USL season as Jackson has, I think they would get some consideration as well.

Hoilett and Friend would be a good combination as well. How long until broken toe's heal? Will he be available for gold cup I wonder?

Ricketts should and is not in the picture

With the emergence of Jackson (and possibly Hoilett) where does Hume fit in?

Jackson will likley be the target of CCC teams and Hoilett may find himself in Bundesliga (clubs are expressing interest). Obviously club level is not everything but I think Jackson vs Hoilett vs Hume will all provide competition for that spot next to Friend (or Gerba).

First and foremost - we need to hope that Hume is recovering, physically and mentally, and he will be able to return to playing competitively. We keep hearing tidbits that hint at progress - but nobody has come out and said that he will play again. Concerning, I think...but I wish him every bit of luck on the path.

Hume's delivery was lethal during WCQ. Both of our away goals came from his set pieces.

Ideally, Hume is suited to where we are talking about playing Jackson. Tucked behind a centre forward in a Gerrard-esque role.

He has the ability to hit from distance, distribute and some pace to break on the counter.

We have yet to see Hume used effectively with the NT - we have always left him out to dry on the right wing or even worse at centre-forward (Mitchell, I see you).

Similarly to Hume, Jackson makes an excellent energy sub for the nats. Both have the pace to trouble tired defenders and the predators' touch around goal.

I hate to say it but I wouldn't be surprised if we never see Hume play for Canada again. I hope it's not true, but I don't see how a player could risk re-injuring himself after such an accident, especially not a player with his playing style and one who is likely to endure months/years of litigation surrounding the nature of his injuries. Hope to hell I am wrong, but I think this could be another Bent-like situation that drags on until a sad, foregone conclusion.

The League One hotshot and Canadian international is aiming for the top

Are you surprised at how well things have gone this season?

Not really. There was a feeling at the end of last season that Keith Hill was building something special and although we missed out in the play-offs last season I think it gave the players a belief that we could go one better this time around.

Having grown up in Canada, how did you end up in England?

My local team, Sunoco FC, came to England to play in a tournament that also featured Gillingham, who invited me for trials. As I was coming up for YTS age, I decided to give it a go. My mother is English so I stayed with my grandmother in Croydon. It was tough initially, and I wasn’t taken on. Instead, I joined Rushden & Diamonds, who were in League Two at the time.

How did you feel when the club dropped into the Conference?

It was tough, but it gave me my first real run in the side and I got 19 goals in my first full season, then another 18 by January last season. Then Gills boss Mark Stimson came in for me, having seen me up close when he was at Stevenage.

Is it true you trained with Manchester United?

I’d only been at Rushden a month when we played United in the FA Youth Cup. I was then invited up for two weeks; it was a great environment to be in and returned to Rushden better for it. I also spent a couple of weeks with Manchester City.

This season you’ve led the League One goal charts – so the step up has been easy?

I’ve found the transition fine. I was already in a pro set-up at Rushden and the Conference is full of ex-League players, so that helped.

What do you put Gillingham’s success down to this season?

Last season the manager was assembling his side, whereas this season there has been familiarity throughout the team. We also played Villa in the FA Cup and were unlucky to lose 2-1 at Priestfield. That game proved we could mix it with some very good players.

I scored my best goal of the season that day, turning Zat Knight before scoring from the edge of the box.

So what does the future hold?

I’d like to play at the highest level.

I also want to establish myself as a Canadian international, having been called into the squad recently. Down the line, I’d love to return to my hometown club, Toronto FC.
