Before I get to the player ratings and bonus quotes on the continuation of this thread, you should know that this coming week appears to be make-or-break time for the proposed D.C. United-Real Madrid friendly at FedEx Field. Since we last discussed this issue, the date would now be Aug. 9 (Sunday afternoon) instead of Aug. 8, and that Real would probably play the other friendly (Toronto is the top candidate) two days earlier instead of three or four days later.

This year's ticket package contains a ticket for a game against an unnamed opponent on a "to be determined date". All that is known is that this is event is called "The Carlsberg Cup" and that the face value of the ticket (in the cheap seats/supporters section no less)is something like 46$. It is the ticket with the highest face value in the whole package.

At those prices, I cant see MLSEL trying to justify that kind of price for a match against and oppoenent like Independiente or Pachuca. No disrespect to those opponents but at those prices, they will need an opponent with a greater brand indentity. Someone like Real Madrid would fit taht bill.

Ya but Tony, none of us actually paid $46 for that ticket. It would be my guess that if they brought in Real Madrid, they would have to play the game at Skydome ask they could never afford it otherwise. We saw how badly tickets for Benfica were overpriced at BMO two years ago ... and as a result the few non-season ticket holder held seats didn't sell very well.

For Real Madrid, I'd say go to a larger venue and drop the ticket prices .... and as for the STH's, they'd have to come up with some sort of solution re. seating.
