morbital
far and away going to be the best looking stadium in the country
piltdownman
^sadly that doesn't really mean anything. In montreal the stadium is so decrepit that they can't use it when it snows, in Toronto's stadium sold for only $25m in 2004, and Edmontons stadium looks like it came out of soviet russia with its running track, unprotected concrete stands in a scary part of town. Drew Shaw
When I went to the 2000 Grey Cup in Calgary (Lions beat Als), McMahon Stadium reminded me of just how good BC Place really is. You don't know what you've got until you have to pee like cattle at half time in a barn like McMahon. And what really ticks me about Cdn sports is the way that all outdoor Cdn stadia don't have overhead cover for fans! Why are we the only country on earth too cheap to build cover for fans? Nothing's worse than getting rained or snowed on while you are sitting on concrete. Yes, I'd love a re-built Empire Stadium, with 40,000 seats and outdoor breezes (and view of the North Shore Mountains) for both the Lions and Caps. Yes, I hate the blaring "music" at Lions games (and presumably Caps games in 2011). But I'd rather have BC Place than any other current CFL stadium. And that includes Commonwealth (too far away with that bloody track).
snake
empire stadiums location was not as ideal as you might think, when that brezze came in off the burrard inlet everyone froze.its a big reason why bc place was built with a roof.
snake
i cant believe it just in global a few minutes ago pavco, the bc lions and the provincial liberals are doing a feasability study about rebuilding empirw stadium on the original site. it would be the lions home for 1-2 years while bc place gets its roof in order wow didnt see this one coming
Vancouversoccerman
Hmmm...this could get interesting... No mention of the Whitecaps, but here's the speculative article by Gary Kingston in today's Sun...obviously Global may have found out a bit more since. B.C. Lions may return to original site of Empire Stadium http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Lions+return+original+site+Empire+Stadium/1723001/story.html

Ironically, the north stand at Frank Clair Stadium is a rare large stand that has full coverage, but it is not in use for either soccer or CFL football right now.
