Carver wants team to play "blue-collar" football and outwork their opponents. Sounds good to me, as long as it doesn't turn into "running around like headless chickens"...

To illustrate his point, yesterday he showed them a video of last Sunday's English Premier League game in which Fulham with its "blue-collar players who work hard" went on the road and defeated Manchester City, "who have all the flair and all the big-priced players," 3-1.

"It shows you can get results by working hard and working for each other and working for a team," Carver said at BMO Field before TFC (1-1-2) left for a road game tomorrow against FC Dallas (0-3-1).

"That's what I've stressed to our guys," he said. "We've got to get out there Sunday night and work for the team and then let the natural ability that some of our flair players have take its course."

That's exactly what's wrong with this coach and consequently the team.

Based on this explanation, I take that Barrett will be starting again?

Yap having that Dutchie in my blood I would love to see some logic in our game.It is very frustrating for me to watch looking for that build up ,finding the open man and create those opportunities. As I said before soccer needs to be played with a high level of entertainment in mind as well. Anyway I am not here to relate to Holland or that old country attitude, but just hoping to see a smart and logical system in place.

Yes, god forbid we ask them to play hard. Surely all they have to do is walk on the field, and TFC's abundance of natural flair will win the game all by itself.

No, god forbid we start playing a more technical non british brand of soccer in Canada!

Come on now, we all know the ball is a diseased object that needs to be blasted down the field with abandon. I mean that's the logical way to play when the meat of the season is played in hot temperatures isn't it? It's not like TFC have directly gone down hill over the hot summer months for 2 years straight (hmmm).

Carver needs to put away his pom-poms and start using his undersized brain. In the two years I've watched TFC play, very rarely do they get explicity out worked. What usually happens is TFC works hard, and the other team works smart. So TFC wastes their energy and the other team gets more out of less.

But regardless of how that plays out in John Carvers mind, more effort = win, less effort = loss. Which is why you see peons like Johann and Jarred Smith on the field in the past. Because they run around alot wich means they are putting in "effort".

Who cares that they are constantly in the wrong position on the field, run to the wrong places, are too stupid to read the play, they can run really fast and for a long time!

To be fair, Fulham played well last week in their win at Man City. I didn't watch the whole game, but i had it on the TV in the bedroom (i also had another game on the TV in the living room) and saw parts of it. From what i saw they defended well, counter-attacked well and took advantage of their chances. If we can play like Fulham did then we'll have a good chance to win tomorrow. But if the players take it to mean "work hard, blast it long, run around and look busy", and in the process forget to play the game properly then we're doomed...

Comparing Mitchell and Carver based on their preparation and time spend with the players, I think unless Carver starts winning some more games now....there isn't much of a difference between the two of them and we ended up asking for Mitchell's head.

Is that really the solution? Work harder?

It may just be spin for public consumption so he is seen to be doing something given some of the troops are getting restless and his options in terms of changing the starting lineup are actually quite limited. Rightly or wrongly, he clearly isn't going to use Velez instead of Harmse and Frei appears to have beat out Sutton at least for now. White is injured and Edwards, Smith, Gomez, Sanyang (yes I know about the not until August angle), Attakora-Gyan and Gala appear to just be making up the numbers at training at this point so given Dichio appears to be a fixture in a second half supersub role that leaves Ricketts and Vitti as the options to change last week's starting XI. That would probably simply turn things back to one of the scenarios that have been tried before.

I get the feeling that this is an important stretch for JC, not necessarily with this road game but definitely with the next two home matches in short succession. If his team drops points with unconvincing performances I wonder if he'll see through the rest of the season?

Dwayne another victim of that phony Grass. It seems he is without any doubt. I am so happy to know that TFC is changing this crap to Mother Earth's grass with all it's inherited beauty.

Yap I am off to Jack Astors in where else Scarberia for the game and knowing these Scarborough rowdies it will be a blast,it's like being in the Stadium. Can't wait to see the Scarborough connection again.
