jonny63
From Panama thread in BigSoccer : Yup, I just noticed that on FIFA's page. But nothing has been announced by the Panamanian federation yet, so I don't know how official it is. So far it looks like 3 friendlies in june - against Jamaica way - against some southamerican national team, home, on 25june for the inauguration of estadio Rommel Fernandez - against canada away at the end of june right before heading to San Fran for the Gold Cup http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=711952&page=
loyola
This would make sense since Richard Scott was recently quoted saying the CSA was working on a pre-GC game. First, let's hope this work and second that the game be play in Canada.

Obinna
Round 2 against the reagge boyz at BMO? That would be the best location from a marketing point of view..... I think we would be able to sell at least 15,000 considering the costa rica friendly drew around 10,000.

If you can sell out a TFC friendly vs. Pachuca you can sell out any international friendly. After all international friendlies are hardly ever friendly. Lord Bob
On account of our Gold Cup beginning in Los Angeles, it wouldn't surprise me if a friendly was on the west coast. (Note: this may or may not be wishful thinking from a guy in Victoria.)
jpg75
^ Probably right. Panama play at home on June 25th before travelling to San Francisco for the GC. We start the GC playing in LA, so it figures that the friendly with Panama is somewhere in California or a neighbouring state.
Obinna
lol read the post wrong sorry guys. Panama makes more sense anyways since we play Jamacia in the group stage. Panama is a good test.

The Pachuca friendly was included in TFC season ticket packages. In essence, 16,000 tickets for this match were sold from the get-go. I still agree with your point regarding marketing, though. Canada friendlies could very easily sell out at BMO should the CSA spend more than pocket change on marketing.

How hard would it be to advertise before/half time/after TFC games a quick clip of Canada and Panama. Saying "the best players Canada has to offer including Julian De Guzman of Deportivo La Coruna, Rob Friend and Paul Stalteri of Borussia Monchengladbach and Toronto's own Dwayne De Rosario and Adrian Serioux"...... would that not make people look up and go "hmmm?" It would grab my attention. At the last TFC game, the WNT's friendly against Japan was advertised on the big screen. Needless to say, more than a few people would pay attention if they found out that two or three of TFC's Canadian players got called up for a friendly at BMO. Of course, marketing national team games should go beyond video-board advertisements. Flyers, TV ads, and direct contact with OSA clubs go along way in ensuring that BMO gets filled for friendlies, and that most of the support is pro Canadian. Plus, there is grass at RAP and Swangard. I highly doubt this will happen though. With the minimum number of National Team games required at BMO, I can't see the game not being played there. What ever happened to that return Iceland friendly?
FootieFool
quote:Originally posted by masster What ever happened to that return Iceland friendly? Iceland are in the midst of WCQ. I suspect if the return Friendly happens it won't be until after European WCQ finished. The Icelandic economy going into the tank may have also had ramifications that has trickled down to their FA. Iceland the country went bankrupt in the fall, taking the brunt of the global recession.

Obinna
anymore news about this? we now have rumors of a Panama friendly, a Guatamala friendly, and of course the confirmed Cyprus friendly. If we could get all three that before the gold cup that should be adequate preperation.
Lord Bob
Every indication seems to be that Panama is off, because Panama started to quibble late in negotiations and, among other things, wanted to make it a home friendly. Guatemala is probably a substitute.
