More to come but I expect to see a MAJOR signing in Germany in the next two months.

Weekend update.

Friday

<rien>

Saturday

Bundesliga 1

Dani Fernandes and Daniel Imhof both expected to start for VfL Bochum (14th - 25 pts) vs VfB Stuttgart (6th - 42 pts).

Sunday

Bundesliga 1

Kevin McKenna once again part of a 3 defensive midfield formation in front of the back four for FC Koeln (11th on 32 pts) as they host Bayer Leverkusen (7th on 38 pts). A win would be massive, putting them into the top half of the table.

Borussia Moenchengladbach (16th on 22 pts) have a true relegation 6 pointer vs last place SC Karlsruher (18th on 17 pts). Unfortunately, Rob Friend is out after minor surgery and super "wunderkind" Marin is out with an accumulation of yellow cards. Paul Stalteri in at right back for Sunday's game.

Bundesliga 2

Nik Ledgerwood shows his versatility once again as he is slated to start at right back for 1860 Muenchen (10th on 33 pts) as they host VfL Osnabrueck (15th on 27 pts).

Josh Simpson to start again on the left flank as FC Kaiserslautern (4th on 41 pts) host Rot-Weiss Oberhausen (9th on 35 pts).

And David Hoilett is expected to start for FC St Pauli (7th on 38 pts) as they continue their march up the table taking on last place SV Wehen Wiesbaden (18th on 17 pts).

Hutch? Or maybe Hirshfeld? Or even Begovic?

My guess would be a keeper as well....but I doubt it's Begovic since he's been really good with Pompey reserves lately. So I say Lars.

Logically, what could the MAJOR signing be? My money is on Hoillet making a permanent move to a Bundesliga side. Second pick would be one of the Whitecaps residency kids signing a pro contract this summer.

All the talk in Germany has been about whether Hoillett's loan would be extended for a year. It sounds like Blackburn want to keep him but want him to get professional level experience. I think if Pauli really thought they could sign him permanently, their coach wouldn't be constantly praising him the way he is because that is not helping the price Blackburn would demand. I also doubt Hoillett with all his potential would really want to sign permanently with Pauli who are perennially a 2nd division team and generally closer to the 3rd division than the 1st Bundesliga when with a few years development he could have an opportunity with an EPL team. I could see him signing with a 1st Bundesliga team though on a loan or permanent basis as they could offer a lot more money than Pauli.

I'm really hoping that this involves Lars (if it happens). He needs to get out of his current club situation in a bad way. Plus, where could a Canadian of German parentage feel a better sense of belonging, than in the Bundesliga? Fingers crossed.

If like Ed says it's a MAJOR signing, then i doubt it would be a loan move...

This is still rumour stage. Clue for the hardcore: Kevin Keegan.

Well Keegan apparently quit Man City over not being able to sign DDR. I can't imagine him going to Germany. However Man City signing David Hoilet would make a lot of sense because Mark Hughes would know him. Not sure if it counts as "major." Keegan also managed David Edgar. Next clue?

^ Reread that. Bingo. Rumour is that Hamburger SV is after David H.

Makes sense, the Hamburg scouts wouldn't have had far to go to watch him. And didn't HSV and St. Pauli play a friendly during the winter break?

As is, he likely wouldn't be able to play for Blackburn for a few years anyways. He could try to attain his work permit through appeal as a "special player exemption", but not sure how easily they hand those out anymore. If that failed he'd have to wait until he played in 75% of his countries' - ranked 70th or better - official matches (ie. WCQ's or GC matches) in a 2 year span (those were the British WP rules a while ago). Since he didn't play in WCQ for either us or Jamaica he'd have to play in the GC this summer, hope the team he picks keeps their avg. ranking below 70th until the next GC when he can again play in that tournament and finally qualify for his British WP.

Grizz, while you're spot on about St.Pauli being generally a 2nd B.Liga club, they are doing well this year, and could see a promotion which would be great for D.Hoilett if he stays with them another season.

Also, with the new relegation battle system this year, if Stalteri and Friend can place in the top of the 3 relegation spots, at least they get a chance to play the 3rd place team in the 2nd Bundesliga to avoid relegation.
