Bill Ault
The European powers will muscle in on Major League Soccer’s season by staging a one-week, six-city tournament from July 19 to 26, featuring three of the continent’s best teams and one of Mexico’s premier clubs. The NY Times Soccer Blog has the complete story. http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/24/super-clubs-move-in-on-mls-this-summer/ There is no mention of any Canadian dates but one rumour that has been making the rounds is a match-up of Chelsea and Inter-Milan in Montreal. This news along with some grumblings that MLSE is working out a deal with SUM Marketing may see one or more high profile games in Canada this summer. www.canadakicks.com
Keano
The Chelsea/Milan date at the Big O has been canceled due to "Gold Cup reserving Northeastern venues" according to Nigel Butler on Team 990.
Peter S
A shame, but not a surprise: all matches in the US. Although, perhaps it is a good sign that so many large venues seem to be trying to arrange at least on event (Gold Cup/friendly) during the summer. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=630912&sec=us&cc=5901 Sunday, July 19 Club America vs. Inter at Stanford Stadium (Palo Alto, Calif.) Tuesday, July 21 Chelsea vs. Inter at the Rose Bowl (Pasadena, Calif.) Wednesday, July 22 AC Milan vs. Club America at the Georgia Dome (Atlanta, Ga.) Friday, July 24 AC Milan vs. Chelsea at M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore, Md.) Sunday, July 26 AC Milan vs. Inter at Gillette Stadium (Foxborough, Mass.) Yeah, Northeastern venues in the United States!! Now we can't host the Gold Cup or international friendlies either? This is dumb.

This sort of illogic seems to haunt the game in this country.
Bill Ault
Let me see if I can find out from CAA Sports if the CSA was involved in the cancellation - I believe they do have a rule / bylaw against international club games not involving Canadian club teams. What about the ChampionsWorld games at SkyDome in '03? Or Dynamo Zagreb vs. Rangers in '05?
Daniel
Didn't they change that a few years ago? Or was that only for national teams? ie Serbia-Italy in Toronto.

They used to Bill and we can recall various controversies through the years that revolved around that rule but if the rule is still in place, how did the Champion's World fixtures take place? Money I presume. I look forward to reading whatever you can find out.
