jpg75
Ok guys, so how's TFC going to do this year? I'll say we finish 3rd place in the East, win in the first round and lose the Eastern final. Overall record: 13W 8L 9D = 48 points (50GF 40GA (+10)) Home record: 10W 2L 3D = 33 points (30GF 15GA (+15)) Away Record: 3W 6L 6D = 15 points (20GF 25GA (-5))

ottawaguy2009
There are some pretty ambitious predictions here. I don't imagine the Reds will make it past 4th in the East. They should make the play offs this year but I doubt they'll advance to the final. There are just too many other good teams out there. (2009 is Seattle's year in my opinion.) I still have my doubts about the chemistry of the team. Granted, we haven't seen much action from them since last season (save for the Carolina Cup) and so perhaps my assessment is a little premature. But chemistry is not stressed enough. Players need to gel together so that the ball is moved seamlessly between them. Seattle appeared to do a good job of this in their home opener, however at times it looked as though there were too many mids/forwards jumbled up at the top of the 18. Anyways I digress. Record for TFC in 2009. I'll only post my prediction for wins (not draws or losses): out of 30 games(?) I predict 12 W.
jpg75
For comparison sake, this is last years results: http://web.mlsnet.com/standings/index.jsp?team=t280&year=2008 Overall record: 9W 13L 8D = 35 points (34GF 43GA (-9)) Home record: 6W 2L 7D = 25 points (17GF 12GA (+5)) Away Record: 3W 11L 1D = 10 points (17GF 31GA (-14)) First thing that stands out is that we only lost twice at home last year! Way too many draws though... Comparing last years results to my prediction i'm calling for 4 of the home draws to turn into wins, and 5 of the road losses turn into draws. BringBackTheBlizzard
I'll be an optimist. 43 points 3rd in the east, win Canadian Championship, knocked out in semis of playoffs and group stages of Champions League. Defence is a nagging doubt, however, so barring trades or additional discovery signings etc a lot rests on Brennan being fit all the way through and either Harmse or Velez raising their game a bit so the team can get off to a very strong start before the hot weather sets in and much of John Carver's tactical know how is no longer applicable. VPjr
I predict an Overall record of: 12W 10L 8D = 44 points I think they'll be one of the top scoring teams in the league (top 3) but also one of the worst when it comes to goals against (bottom 3) I think TFC will win the Voyageurs Cup rather handily (Toronto 1st, Montreal 2nd, Whitecaps 3rd). TFC will get the last playoff spot and be knocked out in the 1st round of playoffs in CCL, TFC will be knocked out in the group stage I'm not convinced the team is strong enough defensively to do better than I've predicted. It's not easy when you have to score 2-3 goals every game to get the win. Greg Sutton is not a top keeper in this league so you can't have a leaky D with him in net. Maybe Frei will prove that he is the better keeper. I'm also not convinced that a team coached by John Carver is going to get the most out of his team. He has a ton to prove to me. I want to see if he is a coach that knows how to squeeze a win out of his team on a day when a draw is probably all they deserve and, equally, I want to see if he knows how to organize the team when they've fought back to tie a game that they ought to have lost. Last year he didn't show me that but it was his first year managing a club and he was doing it in a different environment altogether from what he's used to. After a year under his belt, I'd like to see what he's learned. I like his passion....I want to like his decision making.
Tuscan
Why so little optimism about the Champions League? Albeit dependent on who is drawn into the group, I think any three of our clubs should be able to reach the knock out phase. As for TFC's record: 15 W <--- many of these will be close, getting the goal in the last 5 - 10 minutes of the game 11 L 4 D
youllneverwalkalone
Nobody can make an accurate prediction without knowing who will fill the hole at CB. Though if it's a Sol Campbell type, the immediate impact may be negligible until the player gets used to the league and recovers from the Euro season. Still, I think there's enough between Serioux, Harmse, Brennan and these African kids to win more than they lose. Probably another inconsistent season, but much better than last because the draws will turn into wins. 14W 4D 12L for 46pts. Let's have a separate thread for Vs Cup Predictions, if there isn't one already. Good luck!
BringBackTheBlizzard
quote:Originally posted by Tuscan Why so little optimism about the Champions League? rick10
i think they ll make the playoffs. They the the voyageurs canada cup and they do decent in the champions league The only main problem with this team is that they do not have very good subs. So if they the starters stay fit they ll do well . But if there are injuries , cards, etc they may strugle
bettermirror
TFC finishes 2nd in the east, 2nd in overall goals scored. TFC loses first round of the playoffs....they gotta take their lumps first before any cup success. TFC win V CUP and lose in the quarterfinal of the CCL.
