Tomasz Radzinksi Interview

Hello everybody,

The Tomasz Radzinksi interview is up at www.twcanuck.blogspot.com . I went yesterday but the coach decided to have an extra long training session and Tomasz subsequently wasn't able to speak with me because he had a doctors appointment. I went back today between training sessions and got the interview.

He told me that people often ask him whether he regrets playing for Canada and he told me not at all since he been able to play in Caribbean countries that were somewhat more beautiful than countries such as Azerbijan. Had a good laugh over that.

Cheers.

Yes, there was an interview with him in a Belgium soccer magazine where he told it also. Did he tell you the story about the game in Jamaïca where all the players where “stone” because of a full stand smoking marijuana ? And the some players maybe afraid about doping control :P

I'm gonna read the article now

Excellent interview. Well done.

"Maybe there were problems on the pitch in regards to the player’s positions. For example, if I had been played upfront with De Rosario on the wings it would have changed things a little bit.

Thirdly, play the players according to their position at club level. Put them where they should be and not where you think they should be."

Get the message Dale? (radz agrees with us, you suck).

Great interview, CanadianSwede, and not just because you used my question!

"Thirdly, play the players according to their position at club level. Put them where they should be and not where you think they should be."

Nice to see a player vindicating one of our core beliefs about national team player selection (he's even used some of the same phrasing). It's worth noting that he was quite specific about the DeRo example yet at club level with the Dynamo, DeRo did play in a more central role. Radz obviously didn't particularly relish being on the flank for our MNT.

Yes, the example he gives somewhat undermines the point he is making. Another reminder that Coaches coach, and players play, and managers manage....

Great interview though, thanks very much Canadian Swede (in Belgium).

Definitely. He's seeing things from his perspective. What would DeRo and the other players' perspectives be about the same situation?

Fantastic interview, always great to see what Nat players have to say about the state of things. Some of what he had to say felt like daggers in my heart, especially the comment about how he felt sorry the players couldn't give back to the fans. I mean, it was a poor qualifying run, but they definitely showed some genuine heart in the early part of it, especially in both TO and Montreal.

Somehow I hope he gets involved in the CSA, in some way, because he knows what he's talking about, what the players want and are/will be looking for, especially the ones playing abroad in Europe. We need someone with that knowledge to step into a major role with the CSA.

Especially since the Canada-Honduras game definitely changed once Radz was pushed into the advertising hoarding. Not his fault our team lost the ability to mark men.

Also thumbs up from me on the interview. I'm glad he put it out on the record for everyone to see especially on tactics and the field turf situation (albeit not a surprise to anyone here). We'll have to go for a beer or two when you return.

Over the last few years, Radzinski has really turned his reputation around in my opinion. He showed incredible commitment to the national side, has spoken candidly about Canada, and proved to be a classy Canadian.

Irony is, Radz played the flank really well during WCQ. His speed caused some real problems for defenders. I actually think Mitchell made the right call with Radz on the wing.

Fug - I can't believe I just defended Dale Mitchell...

If he played that well on the wing. Imagine how well he may have played up front.

I think that the match against Mexico in Edmonton, he decided to play in front (I doubt Dale Mitchell could think to do that) and he played his best game of WCQ. Also, with Anderletch and Everton, he clearly was the best forward of the team. When he left Everton, I never understood why Fulham (as well as our MNT) made him play left wing.
