Just because he plays at Furman doesn't mean he's not a good player. There are numerous instances of players having been passed over for Canadian youth sides who end up with more significant professional careers than those who made the cut.

I agree its just very unlikely in this case with a Furman player

and yes I can think of numerous recent examples with the U20s Andrew Ornoch and Tyler Hemming being two.

Olivier Occean; Jim Brennan (played qualifies not WC); Kevin McKenna; Daniel Imoff; Ante Jazic; Dejan Jakovic; Ali Gerba (played qualifiers not WC); Greg Sutton; Issey Nakajima-Farran; Adrian Cann; Kenny Stamatopoulos; Stephan Ademolou; are all other examples.

In fact, you could make the argument that there are almost as many current national team players who were not involved in the U20 side as there are those that were. That is why it is so important in my mind that Canada has a proper tiered system as many players who are not good enough for the U20s will still blossom into good professionals and even possibly national team members if they have a proper professional place to play between U18-U23. Almost all of the above developed during that crucial age in either US universities or European club sides.

For those reasons, I hope Vancouver can negotiate something with its Academy with MLS as its one of the best places in NA if not the best to develop talent. That program would be a big loss if it was to go to the development of Canadian soccer players.

Also to add to 2005....

Kyle Hall and Dejan Jakovic were passed up but went on to play and start for the U23s. Along with Hemming and Ornoch who also started. 4 players who were passed up for the 2005 U20s started! Add to that Keegan Ayre less than a year after the 2007 U20 WC where he didnt start was a starter for the U23s. And also Sanchez (?) made the team when he was cut from the U20s.

Keegan...smarten up here you obviously don’t know a thing about football and probably neither played the sport because your knowledge of the game is lacking here, your like the rest of the typical Canadian national team coaches who believe just because you play over seas you should be playing for Canada and your the best. And as you can see by our latest results in the U20 world cup the Canadian system the way it is isn’t working. So if you clue into players like Dane Roberts for example who is top class and should be starting Right Mid over players like "Sean Rosa", then maybe Canada would maybe win a game in the world cup next time. The Canadian system needs to get out of their head about bring in all of these overseas players and start brining in University players who are 10 times better then what they have now, and you are saying no furman player can play for Canada? Well if you look at their results I believe they were top 25 in the country last year and having Dane Roberts starting for them does say allot, but I guess you really wouldn’t understand because you seem to be very uneducated on the topic of soccer. Well ill leave it at this smarten up because it take offence to people who don’t no soccer, and maybe you and the rest of Canada will realize that taking in these overseas players who do absolute ***T when they play for Canada well get us no where, and maybe try taking some university players and see how that goes or else if Canada doesn’t then they will still be getting the same old crap results that they have been getting their whole life.

But that is what Canada is all about picking up players that supposedly play in Europe etc. But in the meantime we keep on failing with the same mistakes over and over again. The coaches keep on making mistakes but there jobs are never on line. This is the only country that doesn't fire their coaches when they can never earn a spot for the Under 17 & 20 or the Men's world cups. We keep on putting in the wrong people. Mr. Hart always when he coached the under 17 team he failed twice to make it to the World Cup but what does Canada do they promote him for the Technical Director of men's soccer in Canada. A person who failed everytime he went on the pitch. What does this tell you. What hopes do we have as a Nation. Is there any hope left with these people. The only thing I can say is for the players such as Dane and others that are out there playing for University teams, just keep on giving what talent you guys have because you have a better chance of them seeing you in the U.S. than here in Canada. You guys are producing something positive for yourselves and for your Universities. Good Luck to all of the Canadian players that decided to stay in the University systems you guys won't fail with your decisions to continue your education. Keep your heads up your chance will come to shine whether in the U.S. or Canada.

I wish people would stop re-inventing the past. 'Futbol10', you state that we can never earn a spot for the U20 WC. Bull****. We qualified (coming in 1st in our group) in every tournament this decade, except for 2007 (we were host) and the much-discussed here 2009 (missed out to Costa Rica, T&T).
