tmcmurph
This Saturday at the Calgary Soccer Center. They should blow away Wenatchee. I know the previous game was close but Calgary was at the end of a road trip. Wenatchee has only won a single game this season. What is it with teams that come from cities that start with "W"? Winnipeg and now Wenatchee both bottom of the barrel.
Stuart
FT: Calgary 22 - 2 Wenatchee, YES "22 - 2" You did have to feel sorry for the Fire as they didn't appear to have a full squad and some of their players seemed to be carrying injuries. Okay here goes: Calgary, 1st quarter: Gaetano :40, 7:10 Jovica 7:56 Timotijevic 9:35 Zuniga 10:09 Napuri 10:30 Duberry 11:50 Napuri 12:58 2nd quarter: Miron :56 Duberry 4:25 Napuri 5:30 Slade 5:50 Kooy 8:43, 12:52 Yamada 13:16 3rd quarter: Napuri 3:56 Reyes 4:16 Slade 5:29 Gaetano 9:53 4th quarter: Reyes 6:40 Yamada 7:46 (PP) Miron 12:02 Wenatchee 4th quarter: Andy Garcia 3:55 Megson 5:30 (PP)
tmcmurph
Calgary won this one 22 - 2 and it wasn't that close. Calgary scored in the first minute and that was as close as it would get. Calgary simply dominated to such an extent that I wonder if Wenatchee played a different team at home. Every single aspect of the game was simply owned by Calgary. Speed, touch, formation, movement, passing, shooting, possession and any other measure was clearly in Calgary's favour by a large margin. So Calgary is up in Edmonton for a crucial double header on the 27th with lots of practice under their belt and Wenatchee are off to Saskatoon to face a very improved Accelerators team. Yea it was total ownage by Calgary. I prefer the more competitive games but good practice for Calgary. We actually cheered when Wenatchee finally scored. We also yelled for Calgary's goalie to "go for it" "all the way" when he got the ball in the last minute.
Stuart
From the PASL site: 2/21/09 - CALGARY 22 WENATCHEE 2 The Calgary United built a 19-0 lead through three quarters and doused the Wenatchee Fire 22-2 before a season high crowd at Calgary Soccer Centre. The 22 goal output sets a new PASL-Pro record for goals in a game. Two records in one night can't be bad!! With the record crowd the future looks good for the club. Let's hope this leads to an outdoor team but if not maybe we can start playing in a real arena next season.

Winnipeg Fury
WENATCHEE ? Is that a reserve ? And exactly what team/league is Winnipeg at the bottom of ?

And exactly what team/league is Winnipeg at the bottom of ? www.wenatcheewa.gov (city in Washington State and self proclaimed "Apple capital of the world" ) I was joking about Winnipeg's team last year. When they do field a soccer team in CSL, or whatever league they choose, to I hope they field a competitive one. Watching close games is always more fun than watching blowouts. Hopefully Winnipeg will field a team in some league and get some serious backing. Last year the guys on the team got cut loose by the financier and things went downhill from there. You could see that they were trying real hard but just didn't keep up. Playing ALL you games on the road must have been a real downer for them as well. Still the players stuck it out and played hard so hats off to them for perseverance! That and nobody blew them out 22-2 so they played much better than Wentachee last night. redhat
No one in Winnipeg will take an indoor league seriously, especially if no rich owner is on the horizon. Winnipeg has not fielded a competitive professional soccer franschise since the Winnipeg Fury won the CSL title in 1992. As for Wenatcheewa, good luck to them, but NOBODY in Winnipeg that I know will bother to see them play. Perhaps the joke is not the team/s or cities, but rather ... the league? Hopefully if they go PDL or CSL they will get decent finacial backing and support from the fans. Thanks to the Chill we now have a new line in Canadian soccer "If Thunder Bay can do it why can't everyone else?".
