Its Called Football
Bob Lenarduzzi, President of the Vancouver Whitecaps, joins Ben Rycroft, Ben Knight and Chantelle Junker to talk about MLS expansion, recent signings and where he ranks Montreal and Toronto in comparison to his club. Watch it all here http://www.metronews.ca/toronto/blog/post/178833 Cheers Ben
Gian-Luca
Just started watching the first 11 minutes and one note to pass on - it's pronounced "Mo-ra-che", rather than "Morris"
squizz1402635577
^ That has me wondering - does Bob Lenarduzzi, when identifying himself to a stranger, pronounce his name the "right" way (like "pizza") or the "wrong" way (like everyone else does)? Back on topic: I've watched ICF twice, I enjoy it. Good work guys.

Lack of coffee equals lack of concentration in the morning shows. = lack of professionalism. Take it from a guy who used to know, you've got potential to go somewhere in the biz, start using it. Best advice I ever got when I started was the five Ps. Proper preparation prevents poor performance. Still remember it some 25 years later. Joe MacCarthy
Have to say that was one of the best interviews the Duze has ever given. Always found him stiff on commentary and premature to call the outcome of a game (see Ecuador - Gold Cup) but he was very open and informative on ICF. He didn't dodge any questions (refreshing in this day and age) and provided a truthful but not damning explanation of the Lensky affair (he didn't bury the kid) Much appreciated. Guest Jeffery S.
quote:Originally posted by redhat Chantelle is a positive feature of the show, content-wise and visually as well. Really? The person who publicly questions whether the right comparative form of the adjective "drunk" is "drunker" or "more drunk". Embarrassing. Some of you must know her, otherwise I can't understand the benefit of the doubt. I thought she came across as incredibly inarticulate and even foolish. How about that first comment about the women doing something better than the men, she completely screwed up the idea, confusing better organization with better sporting results, and trying to force the argument made it worse. The only thing I will give her is that it was unfair for anyone to so much as repeat a comment about her weight, which was dumb. But not for the sender, or for her, but for the show thinking it was worth repeating at all when they had other options. Unprofessional. I bet they get a few "Ben Knight is out of focus" mails every program and they don't read those. Or do they?

Did you lose a testicle or something? I was alluding, mainly tongue-in-cheek, that Chantelle looks good visually on the show, regardless of opinion. Besides, this is a PODCAST. How "professional" does one expect it to be? It's pretty good for what I expect, for people who do this without getting paid.

Each person has a role on the program and Chantelle's is that of a new fan still learning about the Canadian soccer scene and asking questions on that level. Out of the mouth of Babes... as it were, which can be a very powerful way to ask pointed questions (as GL pointed out earlier). It's also a way to bring new people into the fold, yes even the much maligned soccer mom that so many around here despise. The blurry Mr Dressup provides the non stop verbal diarrhea and the young guy is the traffic cop. It looks like Fred Penner is on a laptop webcam hence the poor focus. I've offered a few criticisms because I care. This is a neat concept (technically) with two kids who are trying to get some experience breaking into the biz and on the whole are doing a pretty good job. Yes, there are a few unprofessional things I could point out but it's a podcast not a network broadcast and the "kids" will learn to be their own worst critics if they want to further their careers. I think they're doing all right. Remember 5 Ps A further note to the young Ben and Chantelle, the broadcast world is an extremely small one, how you present yourself is important. As I said you never know who's watching so first impressions are important. BTW Chantelle Junker is a great name for TV, German aristocracy? You gotta pay your dues and stick with it to get anywhere. I can remember when I was a kid in small town NB our local sportscaster was John Saunders (now of ESPN) It's a very small world.
Guest Jeffery S.
quote:Originally posted by MediaGuy Why Jeffrey? Why do you feel the need to $hit on everything? Well it is about this: if someone says her contribution content-wise was good, then it is fair game. I made no comment at all on the show until I saw that. And she was terrible, apart from being arrogant enough to try to correct someone's grammar with a totally ignorant remark. So not only is she fair game, but deservedly so, and I don't think that you being all hard up about her in TO should change that. I mean, she asks a question to Lenarduzzi and when he does not understand she repeats it robotically, she was completely unable to rephrase it. She might not have that problem if she could get a word in edgewise. Gee whiz Jeffery this is like you said earlier about cheering for Russia in 1972. There must be a psychological term for what you are doing. A$$hole?
Richard
I think they should both remove their baseball caps, the caps give the presentation a distinctly juvenile look. One doesn't see mainstream TV sports presenters wearing caps on a routine basis, there is a reason for that.

VPjr
quote:Originally posted by squizz ^ Ever hear of Gabriel Morency? I'd suggest that up and coming broadcasters avoid modelling themselves after Mr. Morency. He's Utterly, totally unwatchable. I'm biased because I guested on ICF but I think the 3 hosts are doing a good job and providing a unique product for a community of soccer supporters who are hungry for content. I enjoy the fact that time is not so limited on ICF so you can get really in depth with a guest. I congratulate Ben Rayner for getting this show off the ground and I wish the 3 of them the best of luck as they continue with this show.
