Portland Stadium funding in BIG trouble

How can Portland and Oregon justify spending tens of millions on renovating PGE Park when schools are closing and teachers are losing their jobs?

Looks like we've got the edge on Portland as BC Place is ready to Rock and Roll:

I understand your point about Oregon's economy being in bad shape but your link has absolutely nothing to do with Portland's stadium funding!!??

No where does it say it is in big trouble...

Look at PGE here:

someone please explain to me about these "Renovations" that they want to do.

Are they going to tear down that building in the back and close both end zones?

Also, regardless of what Wikipedia is saying, I can't see how that holds 20,000.

To think they'll give Vancouver a boot in the gut and turn down $ 365 million in Renovations to BC Place to approve this Portland crapp is beyond me

Spiral, I'm as big a supporter of Vancouver's MLS bid as anyone, but that doesn't make me immune to basic logic. If the current economic situation in Oregon means that it is folly or immoral (as you imply) to spend tens of millions on renovating PGE Park for professional soccer, then would that not apply even more forcefully to the Vancouver situation, where the government is going to spend hundreds of millions to spruce up BC Place as well?

This criticism becomes even more forceful given the news that the provincial budget will be in deficit for (at least) the next two years. Granted, the renovations to BC Place will benefit more tenants than the Whitecaps, but the point still stands, does it not?

BC Place's Reno plans are finalized and tendering of work goes ahead.

In Portland's case, funding has not been approved yet.

In Vancouver's case, we had the ball rolling on this a lot sooner than the Portland people.

And the Scandal facing the Portland Mayor is as distracting as the sexual assault charge facing Saskatchewan GM Eric Tillman today:

Thank you Brownbear! It's so nice to see someone that knows the difference between "then" and "than". These days, for some reason, 99% of people get them backwards, which is quite a feat since there's a fifty-fifty chance of getting it right with only two choices.

It's a 20,000 seat stadium, like it was when it was still Memorial stadium. They put up bleachers on the opposite side, like the do for World Cup Qualifiers, and for the Women's World Cup several years ago.
