Canadian USL teams grabbing Youth players

Nice to see that Vancouver is taking a look at alot fo young canadians for their team especially if they get into MLS. Apparently Keegan Ayre and Marcus Haber are on trial with Caps but that is not the most important information. It seems lensky is there too....Perhaps he'll come out of retirement...would be great for our future national teams if a player with his promise gets back into action.

Montreal and Vancouver are two good clubs for developing young players. Montreal has a better record of doing it, but it seems that the Whitecaps are really improving. The fact that young Canadians have an opportunity to play professionally can only be a good thing for them.

I don't think Montréal develops young canadian players better than Vancouver. Even in the Trois-Rivières Attak they have some "old" players and i don't find it appropriated because it's suppsed to be a reserve/junior team.

While I'm happy to see the Caps giving them a chance I'm also worried about their future as well. Their recent club history isn't impressive with failed trials with LeagueOne and Two or Dutch second division teams. It appears to me that USL might be the appropriate level of play for them and I must admit that I'm a bit dissapointed by that. Anyways, good luck to them.

Actually I disagree with your statement. I know the Attak are not even practicing at the moment, the Attak players who are not part of a CNHP program or were not invited to practice with the impact, basically have no where to prepare themselves for the upcoming season. And everything will be out of there own pocket.

Whereas Vancouver keeps their players playing together all year round, from my understanding they just came back from a international tournament, and will be going to Dallas for another. The Attak sadly does not follow this same recipe at the moment.

What promising Canadian youth players has montreal produced????

Gerba, Bernier and more recently Hainault and hopefully Suprenant. Not an overly impressive list.

And the Whitecaps? Harmse and Cann. Hopefully Gage, Bonsu and company, as well as the trialists get playing time and move on to bigger and better.

Lets face it, the USL is not primarily about producing Euro bound great players, but giving ok pro players a place to play.

Gage and Suprenant are both fullbacks on the U-20 team. With Nana in the middle that would make 3 of the back four in our U-20 team playing with Canadian teams. A good sign for Canada compared to last round where almost the entire back four was playing in Europe.

I find it hard to believe that all three of those players are just USL quality.

I also doubt they are on trial with the caps, more likely just working out and training at home. The caps would have signed them by now. I mean many Leeds fans thought Haber should have been signed. Ayre and Lensky also started for the U23s alongside players who have played MLS or better Hemming, Johnson, Ledgerwood, Ornoch, Rosenlund, Hainault, Jakovic....

Yes, but Ayre went on trial with a Dutch second division team and didn't made it. Haber went on trial with at least 2 League Two teams and didn't received an offer. So, until they prove they are better than that, I would think USL (if they sign with Vancouver) is the level they belong to.

I don't agree that the impact produced Haineult all he did was train with the team for all of one season, while he was trying out for different clubs in Europe, I don't think the Impact got any transfer money for him. Gerba, bounced around a couple of teams in the USL if I'm not mistaken so I would necessarily say that Impact produced him either. Just my 2 cents.

Based on what I've heard, it appears that Haber and Ayre are truly on trial with the Whitecaps. At this point, I think they're in need of stable club situation to continue their development. The Whitecaps are a very good environment for young players like these to develop. There is a lot of internal competition for spots on the team, which will push these guys to give their best.

As for Lensky, the impression I've gotten from people I've chatted with is that his focus is a return to Europe, likely sooner than later but that info is not from the horse's mouth so I'm not prepared to say that is definitively the case. it will be an interesting situation to watch unfold. I just wish him the best and hope he's rediscovered his passion for the sport. While he might have looked a bit rusty in practice, its clear to the people I've talked to that he's got that extra bit of talent that seperates the good from the very good.
