This tournament is being held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It was originally supposed to be held in Panama, but they do not have a stadium(s) currently capable of hosting the event (renovations?) and decided to forgo hosting. This tourny also doubles as the Gold Cup qualifiers...

Group A

Honduras

El Salvador

Nicaragua

Belize

Group B

Costa Rica

Guatemala

Panama

^ Heh, nice one!

Honduras were up 2-0 after 60 mins. and hold on to defeat Belize 2-1. To be fair, the Belize goal was a flukey own-goal on a shot that was taken from the top of the box and was probably going to be about 10 yards wide! But it deflected off a defender and blooped in over the goalie. [:I]

Honduras were awarded 2 PK's in the 1st half, both deserved. Guevara hit the first one off the outside of the goalpost. 8 minutes later he made amends and scored to the same corner of the net he'd missed earlier. He was also ejected from the game in injury time after picking up his second yellow on what could be argued was a weak call by the ref.

Honduras basically toyed with Belize the entire game, but sloppy finishing prevented this being a 4-1 or 5-1 game.

Costa Rica defeated a very weak Panama side 3-0 last night. Scored 2 goals earlier from opportunistic attacking play. Most of the Tico squad are domestic-based B teamers, and you can see they're very competitive and fighting for spots on the A team for qualifying.

Costa Rica 3-1 Guatemala

Guatemala defender Gallardo was ejected with his second yellow in the 25th minute after a foul in the box. Furtado hit the subsequent PK over the bar. Then, Guate earned a PK 5 mins. later and Marco Pappa had his shot saved by CR goalie Gonzalez. CR got on the board with a wonder strike from MF Alvaro Sanchez when his 25 yarder found the inside of the post. He also scored against Panama when he stole the ball, deked out 2 defenders and the goalie and fired home; all from inside the 6 yard box. He's 24 and plays for San Carlos, one to watch for sure. Anyways, Guate tied it early in the 2nd before the Ticos got 2 quick ones back and cruised to victory. Guate had another man sent off and finished with 9 men.

Nicaragua and Belize tied 1-1 which sees the Nicas securing 3rd spot and advancing to the 5th place match against the loser of the Guatemala-Panama match. The winner of the 5th place match will qualify for the Gold Cup.

Honduras defeat El Salvador 2-0. ES played with 8 or 9 men behind the ball all game long, allowing Honduras to try and break them down and waiting for a slip up to counter attack - it didn't really work. ES had maybe 2 or 3 decent scoring chances all game. They have decent skills throughout the roster, but lack any strength and/or speed. Judging from this result against a Honduras "B" team they're going to have to bunker to avoid getting killed on the road in the HEX against much stronger opposition.

Another upset as Panama defeats Honduras 1-0 in Tegucigalpa! Panama seemed content to counter attack all night and it worked, Honduras had a hard time penetrating through the Panamanian wall.

In the first SF Costa Rica was winning 1-0 in the 60th minute when the game had to be forfeited. ES had 2 players expelled in the first 25 minutes and then had 3 injuries (they had already used a sub in the first half for tactical reasons) to force the ref to call the game.

Wow, That is surprising. I would never think at a tournament as big as this that a team forfeits a game. Maybe because the Ticos didn`t receive some kind of green liquid.

Honduras win the 3rd place match 1-0 over El Salvador. My g/f says Amado Guevara was ejected shortly after entering as a sub because of wearing a ring and forgetting to tape it up. He was YC'd for the ring and then said something to the ref and got an immediate second YC!

Panama wins the UNCAF by way of PK's. The scoreless and somewhat boring match went straight to PK's after 90 and Panama won 5-3(Panama went first and CR missed a kick). The only names i recognize on that Panama squad are young Torres from America de Cali and Philips who played against in the WCQ in 2000.
