No Julian as Deportivo loses at home to Sevilla, 1-3.

Total screw-up as they dominated 1-0 and Sevilla had a player sent off, but the second half was all the visitors'. A Depor without Julian that can't hold onto a lead is a good argument for our man.

Check out Julian on the cover of the daily Sport, Depor edition, from Jan. 7:

Very bad result, but it still obvious that Depor is not at the same level than Valencia or Villareal.

Agreed, they are probably playing above their heads this season. But it was a winnable match, they just blew it.

Still, according to stats for 2008 Depor is one of the best teams in Spain in total points.

Aguiar subbed out m. 45 as Gondomar fall to Olhanense, leader of Portugal's 2nd division, 2-0. They are still in a relegation spot.

Klukowski plays 90 and Bruges fall to Roulers, the worst team in top flight Belgium in the Cup, round of 16, and at home to boot. 0-1 and they are out of the competition.

Bochum beat Hoffenheim in a friendly near Alicante, 2-0. Imhof played an hour for the winners. They play a Chinese top flight side midweek.

On Monday, Ali Gerba's MK Dons host Colchester in a League One fixture. His team hasn't played in a fortnight so I'm curious to hear how they do. Also, Gerba hasn't seen any playing time for (I believe) three matches in a row now, so hopefully he sees some action this evening.

A lot of League One and Two games have been called off due to frozen fields in the last 2 weeks.

They should really think about a 2-3 weeks winter break in England.

BTW, the Colchester-MKD game is on Skysports. Hope Gerba gets some PT.

Josh Simpson played the first half, apparently on the wing, as Kaiserslautern beat St Pauli 4-2 in a friendly in Cyprus. The K-tern web has a certain Hoillet starting as one of two strikers for St. Pauli, so that would be our boy too I guess.

It ends 1-1 with Gerba staying on the bench. Flo getting in on a late sub.

this seems to be a pattern. Flo comes on for the last 10 minutes and Ali rides the pines.

Is MKD "hiding" Gerba? You've got to think that a guy who was averaging a 1 goal pretty much every 2 games was starting to get noticed by other clubs (maybe at higher levels). Putting him on the bench before and through the transfer window might put a damper on interest from other clubs. It's just a theory but who knows??? It just doesn't make sense that this guy has become a spectator when he is clearly able to contribute to this team.

Very wild theory if you ask me. MKD is battling for an automatic promotion spot, not the time to hide players.

Maybe another attitude problem, it happened before.

That is what I suspect as well. Gerba has scored at a decent rate wherever he has played yet he always seems to get benched after a certain amount of time. It is only speculation but I can't think of another good reason for this.

FA Cup (3rd round) action:

Bristol City vs Portsmouth (Begovic on the bench)

League One

Yeovil Town vs S****horpe (Wagenaar starts)

Yeovil got their captain sent off after half an hour and lose 2-1. Wagenaar played the whole game.

Portsmouth won 2-0. Begovic stays on the bench as he watched David James stopping a late PK for Bristol.

Tomasz Radzinski scored the winning goal in the 90th minute of a 3-2 victory for Lierse in the Beker van Belgie (Belgian Cup) against top flight side Dender EH. Radzinski entered in the 78th minute with his side down 2-1, as he was under the weather and the manager wanted to save his top striking pair for an important league match on the weekend.

Interestingly, there were rumours during the winter break that Radzinski might be moving to a Jupiler League (first tier) side over the January transfer window, precipitated by the fact that he spent an inordinate amount of time showing his appreciation for the fans after a match in late December.

His side are likely to promote, but when you are going on 35 and you still want to play top flight football (which he claims), every few months count.
