RustyTWH
NOW all that's left is for the barrage of unsubstantiated rumours, groundless opinion and repeated links to mls-rumors.net to commence. Let me be the first. I'll take Mr Micheal Owen for ....hmmmm... 3 million, please. oh, and yes, i think they should get one.
jpg75
^ With the flood of former Newcastle players thanks to John Carver, Owen as DP is probably as good a guess as any.
Bill Ault
Does the economic downturn which is likely to drive the price of players down from this point on expand the pool of players that TFC might be able to sign? Or do the same economics limit what they would want to spend outside of the cap in any case and keep the pool relatively the same???

Also he's an oft-injured, perennially-overrated poster boy, which seems to be the prerequisite for MLS DPs (Becktoria, Ljundberg)

You need an image, but you also need someone who can really play. Probably what TFC needs is a talented defensive mid with a bit of offence, a team leader, but what do the real fans think? I know you would prefer a killer striker, but it is hard to figure out who to get and the better ones tend to have good contacts elsewhere. ag futbol
I still think you get one really quality playmaker and let him spray the ball over the field. I know Blanco is only one guy, but he completely pulls the strings for Chicago. Scholetto has a similar effect for Columbus for near the non-dp max. Vancouversoccerman
I think MLS is a bad move for older players with injury problems. The league is blatantly more physical than any major top flight league in Europe, and the referees are horrible at protecting star players. I think it's been the experience of every import player that they leave the pitch with a lot more bruises than they're used to. It will interesting to see whether TFC is selective about finding a DP who can help them, or if they just throw money at the biggest name who's interested. He is a great leader on the field, great pace, all over the place, a fine overall talent. But since he has a chance to win another league and a Champions (very reasonable options I'd say), why would he want to go to TFC? Only for money? Manuel
I’ll throw this name out there - Hugo Leal. He’s 28 years old and is a creative mid. In his younger days he was to be the next Rui Costa. He’s played for Benfica, Atlético Madrid, PSG, FC Porto, and a few other Portuguese clubs. I think he may have just signed for Trofense in the Portuguese Liga Sagres. He’s a good age for MLS and even think he could sign for less than DP money. tmcmurph
How about a first rate striker from Brazil? He is big and imposing on the front, great shot and can be paid in she-males!
