for those of you who haven't seen it yet, i tracked down another copy of the footage:

http://vodpod.com/watch/1162283-chris-morgan-elbows-iain-hume

if morgan is not suspended, then i've lost all respect for english football. i'm sorry, but this was clearly intentional, particularly given the fact that Hume had already pleaded with the ref to warn Morgan about his aggressive challenges.

there should be no place in the game for this kind of behaviour. maybe morgan and todd bertuzzi can get together to swap pointers on how to end the careers of their opponents. hopefully hume is able to make a full recovery, but his season appears lost.

^ Thanks for the video. It's the first time I'd seen it; previously I thought that the injury may have come from one of those 50/50, both-players-are-flying-for-a-header-with-their-arms-flailing incidents where intent is difficult to determine. Upon viewing, though, it's clear as day to anyone who's watched 15 minutes of soccer in their life that this was an act of thuggery. Morgan's reaction is especially telling: the flop of the arms, angry that the ref would call it, as if elbowing an opponent the head was all par for the course. Disgusting.

Here's hoping Humey makes a full recovery, and Morgan gets what's coming to him.

"He admits his situation may have been a lot worse, adding: "I could still be in hospital and could have been told that I would never play again.

"But I have been told there is a great chance of coming back. It is just going to take some time and I need to stay relaxed about it and not rush things."

Good news.

I just saw an interview with Hume on Sky Sports News. Wow, that's a horrid set of stitches on his head. He mentioned that he still has some memory loss which is what you would expect. I hope the Football League does something about the incident, although I doubt it. More importantly, I hope he can recover to his normal life soon.

Stricken Hume Back in Hospital

IAIN HUME was dramatically readmitted to hospital late last night.

The Barnsley striker, 25, nearly died after suffering a fractured skull in the match with Sheffield United 17 days ago.

The Canada international suffered the horror injury after being caught by a flying elbow from Blades’ skipper Chris Morgan.

Hume was rushed to hospital for an emergency operation and spent several days in a high dependency unit.

He was allowed home eight days ago and was progressing well.

But Barnsley owner Patrick Cryne said: “Iain complained of feeling unwell and started vomiting.

His family sought medical advice and decided the best course of action was for Iain to go back into hospital as a precaution.”
