nolando
Man, can this guy throw the ball or what? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNaSF9gYsuM I had hoped that Adrian Serioux could have been used to create a somewhat similar (albeit, lesser) attack for us during the WCQs. loyola
Couldn't agree with you more. In the first 2 games I was amazed about the few throws in Serioux took. We had numerous occasion to use him but didn't. A lot of people here will make suggestion about playing some sexy soccer but I thought we didn't exploit those keepers (not very good in the air) by throwing everything at them (throw-ins and long free kick as well). Everytime we won a FK in the middle of the park, JDG or Atiba were playing it quick with no results. Send it into the box and make the defensive work, not pretty but probably more effective considering the opposition.
Sam
One thing that goes under the radar at Stoke is that its not just the throw-ins. Against Arsenal their shortest player in the starting XI was 5' 10", the rest were all over six foot. Canada doesn't have nearly that many tall players who can head the ball. But I agree we should have used Serioux's throw-ins more effective.
tmcmurph
With no offsides on a throw in you can be much more of a threat from more positions and spread the defense out or clump them together. It is better than a kick or corner if you have the long range threat on your team. What makes Rory so dangerous is the flat trajectory. Adrian should have been making all our throw in attempts any where near the box. If we had both Ali and Rob in there we could have created openings later for long shot and volley attempts. Adrian can really launch the throws and with a bit of work flatten them out. Oh well maybe next time we'll have coach who thinks of these things. Desigol
I agree. Teams from English Speaking Countries always tend to exploit their areal advantage. eg. Beckham's deliveries for England.

He usually throws a flat ball into the box and right at the keeper , It forces the keeper to come out because the Stoke players are usually going to win the ball in the box with their height. This creates a lot of confusion and often leads to a follow up goal after a miss placed punch or header.
