JamboAl
Congrats to the Impact from down the 417 as well. I think I'll be making the short trip to the Big O in Feb/Mar. Archundia got hit by a snowball? I don't advocate that sort of thing but in this case, I'll make an exception. Good Job!

VPjr
quote:Originally posted by MastaK Yeah that ref can kiss my ass. Can't believe he didn't call something on that. It was probably planned so the Olimpia players would have an easy counter-attack while Impact players are complaining. I couldn't believe that the ref didn't even call a simple foul when the Honduran smacked Rocco in the mouth. incredible.
Cheeta
^ Yeah, that was wicked. Maybe more clumsy than anything but still. I'm sure if it hadn't occured in such a wonderful spot to be awarded, like way further up-field, a free kick it would have been called. But, then maybe I'm just cynical. gator
^ I guess that's not bad when you consider how ugly the weather was, I would have loved to have been there! Here's hoping they can draw a big crowd in the next round at the Big Owe, they deserve it!
the biologist
quote:Originally posted by Free kick Another one of those blame Toronto, ask questions later comments which you see so often here. Here is some info for you. TSN has been shunning domestic soccer for a while now. Its has nothing to do with toronto or the fact that the IMPACT are not a Toronto team. They were the only media outlet to dump on the MLS and the beckham signing. They report nothing related to MLS or USL or CCL. ever. Conclusion: they hitch their wagon on Euro championships and WCQ and then dump of local soccer. Its pretty easy if you follow closely to realize they invested a great deal of $$$ in the CFL. the CFL season runs counter to soccer in canada and competed for customers and corporate support in much the same battle ground. Draw your own conclusions. Hey, why don't you quote the entire post I made ? 'Cause I also said that: "Please TSN, put this news on the home page of your site ! Show us you care at least a little about Canadian soccer, not to say soccer at all</u>. It's history the Impact made today, so they deserve to be WELL supported by our media here in Canada and to be cheered by every Canadian who want soccer to be successful in this country.". I blame the fact TSN doesn't give a sh*t to soccer other than european competitions and leagues. We agree on the same thing here. BUT, I saw MANY TIMES the report article for Toronto FC games appear on the main page, and you know it's true. All I ask for is THE SAME TREATMENT, THE SAME PLACE IN THE LIST OF NEWS TO THE RIGHT (don't even care if it's at the bottom, I just want to see it there). This victory is AT LEAST as important for canadian soccer as the "Toronto FC eliminated from playoffs despite first home win in 4 months" news, that actually APPEARED on the main page. THAT was my point. Get it ? Hope so... Secundo, I'm far to be the only guy in Canada who calls this media the "Toronto Sports Network". That's just an opinion about the guys who run the station, THIS IS NOT A TORONTO-BASHING STATEMENT AT ALL !!! I'm not thinking about TO when the Impact plays. But when they achieve a huge feat, and sports networks in Canada doesn't tell anything about it, but on the main page of Sportsnet.ca (and I selected the "EAST" region), they think TFC's next game (meaningless by the way) is more a big deal than the Impact's win, well, like you said yourself, draw your own conclusions. I must admit that Sportsnet looks waaaaaaaaaaaaay more Ontario-centric than TSN these days and TSN talks much more about ALL THE CANADIAN TEAMS in the NHL and CFL (yeah I know as much as you do about the CFL-TSN deal)than before. When all the country gets to watch the Maple Leafs EVERY SATURDAY because of the CBC, you know what I'm talking about. FOR YEARS, the Habs played saturday night games at the same time the Leafs were playing too. Guess what ? A dude in MONTREAL on CBC MONTREAL couldn't watch a game played in MONTREAL. We just had to watch the Leafs and shut up our mouth. I know I'm off-topic with that but it just shows that these frustrations dates back from some years. the biologist
quote:Originally posted by jpg75 Typical, can't even enjoy your win without moaning about Toronto. And most of the news on the TSN front page isn't even Toronto related!! By the way, congrats to the Impact and their fans. By the way, I was moaning about the media in TO, not about the TORONTONIANS. I enjoy too the support we get from TFC fans cause YOU REALISE what the Impact is doing. And you know FOR SURE that TFC gets more attention on both TSN and Sportsnet. You would be lying not to admit it. And you know what ? It doesn't bother be NORMALLY that TO gets all the attention when it comes to soccer (specially on the Sportsnet website, seriously, read my previous post), BUT THIS TIME IS DIFFERENT. This is the QF-clinching game of the CCL !!! Be honest and try to tell me without lol that there wouldn't be a better coverage of this CANADIAN FEAT if it was TO that had realised it. gator
Until a couple of years ago we could watch the Habs in Ontario on the French CBC, now they're all on RDS I believe, it sucks! I really hope the local interest in the Impact picks up, they're great to watch no matter how the national media treat it! And props to CBC for having the games on live, even if it's on Bold or the net!
Free kick
The national sports media in Canada is definitly overly Toronto centric. As a result we get screwed out of good stories all the time because of it. You wont get any arguments from me on that one.

MTLcanada514
Hopefully on TV station gets its act together for next season, i.e. CBC,SRC or RDS gets its act together for next season (beginning with the CCL quarterfinals) and shows some Impact games LIVE ON A CHANNEL ACCESSIBLE TO ANYONE. Not everyone has CBC bold and not everyone has an internet connection fast enough to stream the games properly and it sucks on a computer screen anyways. So my wish for next year is that one of the channels covers at least 40% of the regular season games, 100% of the CCL games and 100% of the playoff games and works their damn "fall schedule" which is quite frankly pathetic (src mainly since theyre the quebec station) around the Impact games. Wishful thinking? maybe but thats my opinion

Yeah, give it a try... I don't think they buried the story to their "Soccer" page because it was a Montreal team, i think they did it because it's a USL team. Toronto FC gets all their coverage because they're in MLS and it's the "Beckham league", when the Lynx were around they didn't **** in terms of coverage. Say things were reversed and the Impact were in MLS, i think it's fair to say that they'd get the front page stories instead of the Lynx. And if the Lynx were V's Cup champs and in the CCL (yeah, let's all laugh at that one!) they'd probably get their step-child treatment too. Anyways your original post was quite valid, but when you edited it and started bitching about Sportsnet and the Leafs, Jays, Raptors etc. you came off as a bitter ranter. I'm gonna be a little off-topic again but just want to be clear. Each time there's a fighter from Quebec who gets crowned or defend his crown successfully, there's no SINGLE mention of it on TSN. But when it comes to Molitor (who's now by the way trained by the guy who trained Lucian Bute), they even telecast his fight !!! We've got 4 or 5 fighters who got the chance te become or actually became champions in their category and nobody talked about it, except for Russ Anber (the guy who actually comes from Montreal...). And where do Molitor comes from ? Yeah, Ontario. So the problem for TSN = They should talk more about soccer. Period. We both agree on that, about what I said in my "quite valid" first post. On the other hand, Sportsnet cares more about the game for sure as they hold the rights for the national team. The problem with sportsnet.ca is that they put all their TO stuff from their Ontario people everywhere on the site. That's the case for every TO-based team and every columnists ALWAYS talk about the Leafs. I do care waaaaaaay much about the Sens, but nope. It looks like Sportsnet West and Pacific are more decentralised. But here in the Eastern part, EAST = TORONTO-based teams, not only in soccer. And not only at the expense of Montreal, but at the expense of every other city outside TO (even Ottawa with the Sens, as they're also an Ontario-based team that deserve much more attention). I think this topic should now be closed. It's just my opinion after all. I ain't gonna whine again on this, at least for a while. My promise (but if those same media doesn't give a crap about the Impact's QF 2-leg series in the CCL, then maybe... [}]). GO IMPACT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
