On the TSN site, it's not even on the main page !!! Surprised ? Certainly not coming from the Toronto Sports Network. Frustrated ? You bet !!! But I must admit there are some BREAKING NEWS in there. Yeah, really. Like, did you know that "Cowboys' Romo says Johnson will start against Tampa", "Jyles gets the call for Riders against Edmonton", "Senators break up tandem of Heatley and Spezza", "Report: Avery in heated confrontation with TV host" and more interestingly that "Curlin draws No. 9 post, favourite at Breeders' Cup Classic" (horse racing ?????????) ?

I've send a talkback for this news saying:

"Please TSN, put this news on the home page of your site ! Show us you care at least a little about Canadian soccer, not to say soccer at all. It's history the Impact made today, so they deserve to be WELL supported by our media here in Canada and to be cheered by every Canadian who want soccer to be successful in this country."

Ho much you bet it ain't gonna be posted at all !!! Well, I know them too much to have had an ounce of a tought it could work, but still, in the frenzy I find myself with the win...

Edit

On Sportsnet.ca, it's merely in the list of news to the right. On their soccer home page, again no mention of it besides the list of news. Their main news is "TFC hope to end with a victory" ?!?!?. The game will be played ONLY SATURDAY !!! HEY, WE'RE TUESDAY AND THE IMPACT WON !!! Why don't they make different home pages depending of your region ? They even ask us which "Sportsnet region" we're in at the top of the page, so what's the matter with them ?

IT'S SO FRUSTRATING THAT THE MEDIA ARE SO TORONTO-CENTRIC !!!

When it's not about TFC, it's about "how the Leafs could rebuild ?", "will the Jays finish 3rd, 4th or 5th this year ?", "will the Raptors finally progress ?", etc.

Congrats Impact.

What does this mean, from the story on the USL site:

"The quarterfinal round, a home-and-away aggregate-goal series, will take place from February 24 to March 5. A random draw will determine the four match-ups, but the date for that has yet to be announced."

Does "random draw" mean there are no seedings, no first place vs. 2nd place, no home advantage for the former?

I'm not sure about the home advantage, but it will be a 1st place team facing a 2nd place team in the quarter finals.

All I wanted to know. Meaning the final game does count for Impact, they draw at least and take first place. The advantage is hypothetical of course, as it leaves aside the fact that it is possible that some 2nd place teams will be stronger than some winners (Puerto Rico should end up ahead of Santos Laguna in D, Houston could displace Pumas to 2nd in B as they have a game in hand, while in A if things stay the same either Saprissa or Marathon, another Honduras team, will be 2nd, easier teams than likely winner Cruz Azul, for me the overall favourite)

Seems to me the best draw for Impact amongst logical possibilities would be to get another Honduras team, Marathon.

Conditioning shouldn't be a problem for Montreal as once again next year players are going to be under contract for 10 months as opposed to 6-7 (the norm in usl/mls). After their game in Cancun they'll get a well deserved break and will return to the training pitch in January where JS will have several friendlies planned until their QF match-up.

Let's hope for another european trip and playing good opposition sometime in the end of January or early February.

Or maybe just Florida where you always have a couple of Danish clubs looking for games.

Much better crowd than I expected given the 3 degrees celsius and constant, driving rain. And the best is that most who came out on such a day were the types who stayed for 90 minutes! Sweet. I'd rather that than 10 000 half of whom file out as soon as there's a gust of wind or rain. A smattering of Olimpia support but nothing much. Considering the ball was skipping wet and the footing was terrible, kudos to the Impact for staying together on defense and playing the ball on the ground despite the conditions.

1st of all...Congrats to the Impact and their loyal supporters. When I tuned in last night, Roberto Brown had just scored and they showed a wide shot that made it clear that it was a miserable night in Montreal yet the stadium was loud. I was impressed.

2nd....as a TFC supporter, I am so jealous about how nicely your team plays. What excellent ball control. Amazing that a "minor league" team can play a fluid ball control, constant movement game when most teams in the so called "major league" are incapable. I was really impressed with Grande, Gjertsen, Placcentino and especially Di Lorenzo. I can only wish Toronto had that kind of talent in Midfield. This is a true example of a team of individually skilled players that have bought into a system and enjoys playing together and for each other. It was a treat. I really enjoyed that game last night.

3rd...what a class move by the players to come over, despite the rain and cold conditions and celebrate with the supporters behind the goal. Someone does need to tell Grande to keep his shorts on though....LOL

All in all, a great display of soccer on an entirely awful night for soccer. Good team + good fans = Great show. Keep it up...Canadian soccer fans should be very proud. Hopefully TFC is watching and realizing you can actually win with a Canadian heavy roster (despite what the "brilliant" Mo Johnston thinks).

Grande's short were picked up by the kid of a poster on the Impactsoccer board.

I read in the JDM that Grande refused a contract in England to play with the Impact. We don't know where but that still shows how serious this organisation is.

Congrats to MTL.

I'm not sure why these threads always have to turn into some sort of TFC bitchfest though. Is it not possible to appreciate Montreal's accomplishments on their own merits?

I know what you mean but I think it's natural that it kind of holds a light to the issues of Canadian content that some TFC fans are frustrated about....

I think the Canadian content issue for TFC has been way oversimplified by many here.

Not that any of that matters in this thread, though. This is a thread about the Impact. If I was a Montreal supporter, I'd be annoyed by the fact that normal discussion about my team couldn't take place without numerous mentions of Toronto.

Sounding like a broken record, but -- well done Impact, and well done Ultras, you were definitely seen and heard last night.

But I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned the name of last night's ref -- or is it a "he whose name shall not be spoken" kinda thing?

I think the fact that none of his horrific non-calls actually happened to impact the outcome of the game, coupled with the fact that he was hit in the leg by some shrapnel from a near-by exploding snowball, has people generally satisfied with the situation....:)

Yeah that ref can kiss my ass. Can't believe he didn't call something on that. It was probably planned so the Olimpia players would have an easy counter-attack while Impact players are complaining.

Allez l'Impact! Allez Montréal! They earned themselves a good vacation in Cancun, with no stress!

Great group stage for the Impact!! Can't wait til February!

I love Grande's quote from the CP story posted at tsn.ca:

"Saputo said he has asked that an exception be made for the Impact, who have nowhere else in the city to hold the match. He cringes at some of the suggested alternatives, such as playing at Rogers Centre in Toronto or in Florida where many Montrealers spend their winter vacations.

Limniatis agrees.

"Olympic Stadium is the only place to hold the match, so they have to make it work," he said.

Added Grande: "I think we could get 30,000 in there, and that would be sick."

Another one of those blame Toronto, ask questions later comments which you see so often here.

Here is some info for you. TSN has been shunning domestic soccer for a while now. Its has nothing to do with toronto or the fact that the IMPACT are not a Toronto team. They were the only media outlet to dump on the MLS and the beckham signing. They report nothing related to MLS or USL or CCL. ever. Conclusion: they hitch their wagon on Euro championships and WCQ and then dump of local soccer.

Its pretty easy if you follow closely to realize they invested a great deal of $$$ in the CFL. the CFL season runs counter to soccer in canada and competed for customers and corporate support in much the same battle ground. Draw your own conclusions.

Typical, can't even enjoy your win without moaning about Toronto. And most of the news on the TSN front page isn't even Toronto related!!

By the way, congrats to the Impact and their fans.

The second half was one of the most entertaining halves I've seen in a while. The madness in front of the Olimpia goal after the header that was cleared off the line seemed to last ages, while Archundia's incompetence almost led to a goal at the other end on that break. I'm thinking it's time for a trip to Montreal come either February or March.
