Uber funny because at the pub tonight we were saying a shaved circus chimp in a suit could surpass Mitchell. Might be able to pull the switch off except you could clearly tell the circus chimp by the fact he'd be smoking cheap cigars on the touchline. Hey, if we could just work out that one little snag we'd be set.
VPjr
quote:Originally posted by jonovision In tonight's match he pushed all the right buttons. you really thought so? I'm not interested in repeating my anti-Mitchell rants again on this thread (everyone is tired of them, I'm sure) but I didn't see anything he did tonight that impressed. I was very disappointed that Friend did not start (but I did like how he used Radz and I thought Radz played well overall). As much as I don't like Hastings, I wasn't pleased to see Hainault in the starting lineup (although I was happy to see Mckenna). I really believed that Staltieri needed to be on the bench....he's been one of the worst performers for Canada in the first 3 games and he was relatively mediocre until he got undressed for the 3rd goal. Mitchell might not be to blame or Diesel's poor play but he is to blame for continuing to use him. I could mention a few more difficiencies but i'll leave it at that...it's late. see you all in 4 years.

Toronto MB
I thought the attacking formation would have been obvious if we were going to use the 4-4-2. -------Friend---------------- -----------------Gerba------ Radz---Hutch---Bernier---Hume Mitchell's concotion left us with a fully useles right-side of Harmse and Stalteri. Both of whom have ZERO distribution skills. I don't understand the use of Hainault, surely Jakovic would have been a better option in terms of distribution and pace. What does Hainault provide that is a better option that Hastings? I can't belive Kevin Harmse started such an essential game for Canada. My choopy web-feed was left running as I checked the boards post game and Mitchell said in the press conference that he belived/intended he would still be in charge of the team on Wednesday. I have been patient with Mitchell, how I am now certain that he is neither inspirational nor even tactically competent. The WORST coach since I have been following Canada ('96). Hart, Yallop, Osieck, Lenarduzzi were ALL better I didn't think too highly of a couple names on that list. Mitchell, your tactics and inability to motivate this team has cost us a trip to even the hex with our best team in recent memory. Get the f**k out of the way, and go find a desk job somewhere because YOU HAVE ZERO FUTURE AS A FOOTBALL COACH AS YOU HAVE JUST CAUSED TWO OF THE MOST HIGH PROFILE F**K-UPS IN CANADIAN SOCCER HISTORY. Don't dare to try and lead this team into Edmonton, show some class and leave us to clean up your mess.

jimmynow
He should quit now, and then they should put Hart in the position for the final two games. Here's the chance to "trial" Hart and see if his Gold Cup work was a fluke.
Moldobut
Hart is no fluke, he's the real deal, and I know that if we would've had him as coach we would've qualified for the hex. DM hirikiri your ass now and save yourself the embarrassment cause if you don't you'll go on record as having the worst WCQ results too to go along with your underachieving U20 performance
Wilfrid Laurier
Mitchell must resign or be fired. He was clearly hired to lead us at least into the hex. If any of us failed so miserably at the main goal of our job we would be reprimanded or fired. If he has any dignity he will resign, if there is any accountability at the CSA he will be fired today. Richard
Aside from the fact he should never have been hired for the job in the first place, Mitchell should have resigned after the two disastrous home losses and the CSA was too weak and irresolute to fire him - besides, they couldn't afford another settlement without taxing youth players across the country even more. Now the best we can hope for I suspect is that after the last now meaningless game of the current campaign Mitchell and the CSA will agree to 'part ways'. JB_Tito
Jamaica fired their coach after 3 away games and only 1 point, and now they won vs Mexico 1-0 and have 2 home games with very good chance to qualify. AT the same time gutless and useless CSA kept clueless DM instead of getting rid of him after Mexico game and try at least something else. It not fair to blame DM only,CSA is responsible for hiring DM in the first place, and how to blame DM when we all know he has no clue whatsoever,we can blame someone who has coaching knowledge and experience and doesn't deliver result but DM,let's face it Rep U10 coaches in Canada have more clue and ideas then him. So another opportunity wasted ,thanks for coming out and see you in 4 years.
Chet
Mitchell should go. His job was to get Canada to the World Cup. He failed. It's that simple. Unlike Yallop, Mitchell had plenty of time to evaluate his players and prepare them before qualifying began. Unlike Yallop, he cannot blame the officiating for any of his team's losses. He failed with the U-20 team and he has failed with the senior team. Time for someone new to have a chance. That said, I really feel the bulk of the blame should go to the defenders. Canada's defensive play was horrendous. It was consistently lousy in every game we played. Aside from Serioux, I do not think there was a single player on the back line who showed that they deserve to be playing at this level. It says a lot when your best defender is a player who usually plays midfield and who previous coaches did not feel consistently warranted a starting position on the team. Some of you will blame Mitchell for the defensive lapses, for not imposing enough structure on the team or for not selecting the right players. But the truth is, you cannot implement a structure unless you have a lot of time to practice and a lot of competitive games to refine that structure. We will never have that kind of preparation until we get more professional teams playing in North America and until the CSA is willing to spend the money to organize more friendlies. More than most countries, Canada needs to rely on the individual skill of our players. Sadly, I simply do not see anyone in our player pool who is clearly better than the defenders we used in this qualifying. Until we develop some better defenders, we will have no chance of qualifying, no matter who the coach is. To make matters worse, most of our best players underperformed. DeRosario was a non-factor. DeGuzman was a disappointment. Stalteri was horrible. Hutchinson showed flashes of good play, but in general, tried to do too much and gave up the ball too cheaply. Serioux, Radzinski and Gerba were the only players who lived up to their potential. And that is not good enough. Now that Canada is out, I would like to see the final two games used to begin preparation for 2014. Bring in some younger players. Leave Stalteri on the bench. Mitchell should declare his intentions now and allow Hart and Dasovic these two games to show what they can do. The CSA must start searching for a new coach now instead of waiting until the last possible minute as they have done with the last two coaches. BrennanFan
When I was still living in Victoria, I had the opportunity to watch an U20 practice run by Dale Mitchell (at the Finlayson and Blashard Field Turf pitch). I am no expert on practice techniques. But judging from the fact that my old mississauga soccer club houseleague coaches put me through the exact same drills Mitchell was running (ie. line up, then go on a 2 on 1 against the goalie and one defender), tells me that Mtichell does't know anything about running a proper training session. It just looked so amateurish. It honestly could have been any other team of teenagers. And then we picked this guy to run our national team. So sad. I feel truly sorry for our Senior players, who no doubt were subjected to the same amateurish filth. Dale Mitchell, you are THE WORST COACH THIS NATIONAL TEAM EVER HAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You took a good thing, and somehow, inexplicably, you fcked it up.
SoccerNewf
I keep asking myself over and over and over and over again. Why was Mitchell hired after the horrible U-20 tournament? Why? This excuse for a governing body has to go.

I mean I am assuming that as I feel no association could be dumb enough to basically promote someone for poor performance. I mean that stipulation had to be in the contract. Right? michaeltfc91
They are so stupid, Hart was brought in as an interm and they had already PLANNED that Dale was going to be the coach after the U-20's. Hart did a great job in the Gold cup and Dale did a sh*t job in the U-20's. Instead of saying, maybe Hart is the man for the job, they said: oh well we were going to have Mitchell be the coach so why not, he should still be the coach. They had a dumb plan that could have easily been changed but they didnt change it because they are wankers!
