Bill
What are the standard soccer field dimensions for USL, MLS and FIFA? I'm trying to determine how they can reconfigure seating inside BC Place for the Whitecaps when they start playing in there. They were talking of bringing seats closer into the field area but I'm not sure how wide the field will be. The standard CFL field is 110 yards long plus two 20 yard end zones and 65 yards wide. I did find this but it gives quite a variation as to typical size of field: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Football_pitch_imperial.svg Can each team and stadium vary the size of the field or is it standard size? Daniel
http://ezinearticles.com/?Standard-Soccer-Field-Size&id=1314515 Varied, but 105 x 68m is apparently the World Cup size (all pitches the same size).
Richard
From FIFA Laws of the Game... Dimensions The length of the touch line must be greater than the length of the goal line. Length (touch line): minimum 90 m (100 yds), maximum 120 m (130 yds) Width (goal line): minimum 45 m (50 yds), maximum 90 m (100 yds) All lines must be of the same width, which must be not more than 12 cm (5 ins). International Matches Length: minimum 100 m (110 yds), maximum 110 m (120 yds) Width: minimum 64 m (70 yds), maximum 75 m (80 yds)

Thinking back to watching video of the Whitecaps at BC Place, I don't see there being much of a problem. I seem to recall the stands being quite far from the field. I've found this photo of BC Place from the recent Whitecaps v Galaxy match. You can see that there is room for seating closer to the field! MBZitch
Here's a pretty good picture and there's lots of others from different vantage points (I find Flickr a much better source for pictures than Google) http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikasissonen/1931173926/sizes/l/
coppercanuck
that could easily be 12 more rows of choice seats.
