The Montreal Impact shut out Joe Public FC from Trinidad & Tobago 2-0, Wednesday, in its first game of the CONCACAF Champions League group stage, under the rain at Saputo Stadium.

Way to go Impact!! Onward and upward. You are the first Canadian team in this series go so far that future teams will have a very hight target to shot for!

If that's below USL level...

Well in fairness the Revs were missing key guys including all their strikers, but still it looked to me like the Impact's furious first 20 minutes just shocked JP and put them on their heals, which they never really recovered from. It was a very very good Impact performance.

Personally I think it's a bit of both, MLS teams aren't the $hit but also Impact can put together some beautiful, pressuring football when they want to.

Well I enjoyed the game, lots of goal scoring oppourtunities all night, Byers should have had 3 yes..and more.

The really interesting question is ... what havce the Impact done to turn themselves around this year ?

Could something be happening because the coach is having a positive influence ?

I hope Liminiatis does not jump to the CSA to coach the womens teams possession soccer like the Impact are playing and entertaining with, he needs to stay in Montreal and build the Impact into consistently strong team on the field.

Any one in driving distance should really go to next weeks game .. rain or not, the Ultras were in fine form ( they might need bit more of a bottom end in the songs ).

I agree it's all Limniatis. One thing that sticks out to me is, under DeSantis, it was crazy the amount of times you'd be screaming for switch plays and through balls, and it was as if he had told them never to go for it. Now they execute those two plays quite well under Limniatis and i results in more offensive opportunities.

What's a bottom end?

Bass, I would think.

Amazing what Limniatis has managed. Same cast pretty much but playing so much better.

No MLS teams are bad. The MLS record so far is 4 losses and 1 tie. Esteli was as good as a USL team. Joe Public was well below USL level. Atlante will be far better.

You do realize that the same team that lost 4-0 to JP beat Atlante for the SuperLiga title less than two months ago, right?

And that SuperLiga is the only "continental" competition that has featured every team's full lineup so far this year.

Not making excuses for New England, they threw it away (as DC United did by playing only 4 starters versus Saprissa the other day) and that's their own fault, but you new crusade to anoint the USL as the superior league based on a few anomalous results (without any context) is misleading, and actually goes against history.

That said, MLS should be embarrassed with their results thus far. Hopefully embarrassed enough to give a ****, because they've clearly (and publicly) stated that their minds are elsewhere, belittling this competition.

Ironically, the only MLS side that took any of this seriously was TFC.

Not to mention that New England also beat Pachuca and Santos Laguna.

After how Montreal played yesterday, it reaffirmed my belief that the proper side went on our of Canada. They play such better football than either Vancouver or Toronto, seem to have a higher skill level per player than either Van or TO, and just plain seem to be better coached as well. It would be interesting to see if Limniatis would ever consider taking up some form of coaching role with the MNT a few years from now.

Is it just me, or are Italian-Canadians the key to reigning supreme in Canada?
