^ I think there's a far greater corrolation between professional success and success at the U20 level then with success at U17's. Too much can happen to an elite player between 17 and adulthood.

Well, I agree with that. You just have to look at past U17 teams from around the world a see how many names you recognize. Normally, I'd pay little attention to the U17 events. But this year I think I will because its the first time that we will have players in home grown accademies.

I gotcha, you were talking about measuring the success of the academy youth programs by their impact on the U17's. The only academy i see contributing to the U17's however is TFC with their U16 program. Whitecaps don't start their Residency program until the players are 17 so their impact will be on our U20's.

BTW, pleasure meeting you at the game in Montreal!

Not 100% sure this is the same Chris Sheriffe, but if it is then this has to rank as one of the biggest wastes of talent in recent memory.

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/682179

"Two Toronto men have been charged with first-degree murder after a man was gunned down yesterday in an apparent drive-by shooting in Rexdale..."

"Christopher Sheriffe, 19, and Awet Asfaha, 24, have been charged. They appeared in court this morning."

Sheriffe was one of the best '90 born players in the country as recently as a couple of years ago when he was on the U17 squad. In 2005 he led the U15 team in scoring at the CFU U15 Championship.

I found this in a local paper in Italy re defender Gino Mauro

Look at the list of players and clubs on the first page of this thread. There should be no doubt as to a few things:

1. Just because a player is on a pro youth team, it doesn't mean the odds are good he'll ever make the 1st team

2. Lots of players on European clubs doesn't mean the u20 team will qualify for the u20 world cup

3. Youth pedigree doesn't translate to a pro career or MNT career in any way shape or form
